From BidBay auction site:

When you complete any of the following tasks, you will be automatically entered to win. Earn one entry for each item you list, each item you bid on, and every friend you refer to us.

http://www.bidbay.com/contest/monthly/sellers.cfm

The structure of BidBay's contests would seem to encourage (i) the bidding on items with no expectation of paying in order to gain contest entries, therefore increasing the percentage of deadbeats, and (ii) the bidding on items in their non-cash "BidBayBucks" category, leaving sellers in the cash categories high and dry when it comes to cash bidders.

This has created a less-than-ideal environment for sellers.

Comments?

Dimview,
It certainly seems that way. Of course, I have always been against these stupid contests, anyway!

The remaining users also like to use AW identities, because they are ashamed of what they say.

"The remaining users also like to use AW identities, because they are ashamed of what they say."

Now THAT sounds like a case of the pot calling the kettle black! With very few exceptions, most of the posters here have ID's "only here" or other such cute comments. My AW user ID is almost identical to the one I use everywhere else...the only difference being the "R" at the beginning.

As far as the contests go, a winner is disqualified if they have a negative rating for non-payment of auction wins. The responsibility lies with the seller to report the deadbeat status and leave appropriate feedback to that extent.

You, of all people, know that reporting deadbeats to the site in question is a case of excuse after excuse that they accept.

There are two right now that are deadbeats, pure and simple, but the excuses go on and on.

I am not anyone any place else. I use the same ID or add a 1 (due to others having the same ID) every place I post.

And Good Morning to you as well mtnmama

Notice that I did say "with few exceptions". I had you and one other person in mind when I added that. I know you SN's are almost exact everywhere you do business as I did read your other post before I wrote this one.

I know that sometimes there are delays and excuses...but that has no effect on the buyer/seller ability to leave negative feedback. To the best of my knowledge, there is no requirement on the company's behalf to recover money or merchandise. I know they may attempt to solve the problem through 3rd party negotiation but that usually isn't very successful when it comes to dealing with a true deadbeat.

About all a sight can do is to suspend a deadbeat, but then that would go against registration numbers.

Talon,

I had in the past offered up some very extensive research and tips on collecting from a deadbeat. postal fraud, etc but was turned down by bidbay. One user sent the link around to other users because she didn't want it posted on the chat boards for all to use.

That in itself was idiotic, but who am I to say this person is such? She seemed a good friend until the going got tough, then she got going quickly.

You also know that most of the folks on that site refuse to leave negative feedback because they're terrified of receiving retaliatory feedback which is very amusing to say the least. Anyone knows that retaliatory feedback is just that and if people can't tell the difference between that and an honest negative, they have no experience in online auctions.
