I'm tired of stepping into muck once or twice a week. I have been using PayDirect for the last few weeks and have been very pleasantly surprised with the response from my customers. I will be closing my Premiere PayPal account when my current auctions close. I don't need the hassle.

What happens if the total due is $5 and they send you $5? Do you return the $5. If you do, you're still out the 1.9% + 25c fee. Or, do you deduct the 35c and return $4.65?
I was thinking of simply asking winners of small items to voluntarily add an extra 25c to their PayPal payment to help offset PayPal's fees. Pointing out that if they sent payment by mail they'd have to pay 33c postage, the cost of the envelope, and the cost of the check or money order.

Over a month ago, I was concerned about BillPoint fees and if I gave a refund, I could NOT get that fee back. I wondered if I could hold out the FEE charged by BillPoint and return the difference to the customer. BillPoint said NO NO NO credit card companies do no allow you to:
1.Charge a fee for use of the card
2.Set a limit or minimum amount in order to use the card
3. If refunds are given ALL monies have to be returned.
I didn't believe BP. I also argued I AM NOT ACCEPTING CREDIT cards, I am accepting a payment from a 3rd party who just happens to accept cc.
I emailed Mastercard AND VISA, I got two different answers.
Mastercard just sent a canned message that I had to abide by the credit card policy for terms of use and referred me to their WEB site, which TOLD me: Can't charge a fee to the customer for processing the card, can't set a minimum amount and I have to treat everyone the same...except cash payers, I CAN offer them a discount if I want!
Visa said, I would have to abide by the terms of use set up by EACH payment service.
I contacted PayPal about it shortly after. My argument there was, I had NO WAY of knowing if a person had used a credit card, debit card, direct deposit or check to FUND there PayPal account, SO I DID NOT know if I would be bound by credit card rules under PP TOU. I got the response that they could see nothing preventing me from deducting my PP fee form the REFUNDS (that was my issue at the time), but it probaly would NOT make me very POPULAR to do business with and could possible lead to problems. Of course, since PP changes it's TOU pretty frequently, what was OK then MAY NOT be OK today and I have NOT asked about it again in over a month.
