I liked the idea of using Paypal. It meant that I could pay for items instantly and have them on their way. I've been online since 96. I have seen every scam there is, but I have always been cautious enough to not fall for anything. Well that has changed now thanks to the good folks at Paypal. I won an auction for a holiday beanie. I wanted to use Paypal so that I could recieve my purchase asap. When I logged on to my account I was startled to find that there was an unauthorized payment on my account. It was $151.64 for an E-bay auction that I had never bid on. I have contacted Paypal by phone and email. They say that I will be reimbursed and that I will be contacted by phone. Well my account has not been reimbursed, they haven't called me and have yet to respond to my email. I contacted the Seller of the auction. They told me that they had already shipped it, but would try to get it back. I had to cancel my credit card and now I'm waiting for a new card to arrive so that I may continue Christmas shopping. This has really affected me. I feel like I've been robbed. Someone has hacked there way into Paypal and used my account to pay for an auction. I thought that Paypal was supposed to be as safe as a bank!! I'm trying to find out if there is any legal action I can possibly take.

Umm...well as of today, Paypal has no bank associated with it. X.com has ceased operations, at least that's what they said was happening a while back.

So Paypal is as safe as any bank...if that bank happens to be in the Old West.

Well, don't feel bad..... you were robbed by someone "via" PayPal....... I have been robbed by PayPal itself! At lease they are holding my payments from customers and I can't seem to get them to send me a check for the balance. As a seller, I have had to stop offering payment via PayPal because I can't even get the money they owe me. So now, people can pay me with check or money order only. The sad part is.... this was the money I had planned to use to buy my husband a Christmas gift with. Now, he will only get a card with my love. "Thanks" PayPal.

When the charge appears on your credit card statement, just charge it back. This is a clear example of an unauthorized charge. Any seller (Paypal in this case) who accepts a charge where the credit card is not present takes 100% of the risk.
