I was interested in using u-pic for my insurance and upon reading some of their FAQ's, I came accross a statement that the USPS requires the phone number at the shipping address when adding insurance to priority mail. I have never been asked for phone numbers on anything I have sent through my local PO. Also when trying to use their site chosing USPS they say that the selected carrier does not provide tracking info so I have to enter a phone number again. I understand that the insurance number is not yet available on the web, but again, why do they need a phone number. I don't even want to ask my cusomers for this. It seems very inconvenient. Is there anyway around this? I have called upic and sent them email and have not had a reply yet to either. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

If I remember correctly, U-PIC requires the phone number if you ship without delivery confirmation. If you use DC, I don't believe the phone number is required. Also, if you ship a lot of packages, you should look into the stamp program. It is less expensive than on the website and also does not require phone numbers. Candi will probably pop in on Monday and correct all of my incorrect information.

I send most of my items out Priority Mail with insurance and delivery confirmation. I have just started to use stamps.com and figured if I could us upic I could just drop the packages in the mail box at the end of the street. I just don't like the idea of haveing to ask for a phone number.

Thank you to all who responded for me
Dakota,
As the other posters mentioned we only require the phone number if you are shipping through the USPS and do not use delivery confirmation and do not have a U-PIC account.
If you have the volume to use stamps.com you should apply for one of our standard programs. The rates are lower, there are no phone number requirements etc.
Please feel free to post additional questions or e-mail me direct.
