First off, 3.75 works fine. I like it, but now...

Every time I start AMPro the Windows installer runs briefly. It goes by really fast and then AMPro loads and runs just fine.

From that point forward, SOME of my document shortcuts will start Excel, Word, etc., but the documents "can't be found" and won't load. And at THOSE times with THOSE documents Excel also runs the MS installer and bombs on the document. Then again, at other times everything works like it should.

Very weird.

After I reboot things work fine until I start AMPro again.

Radu, here's what I've learned by applying the MS TechNote that you found...

>> Method 1: Start an Office Program

Yes, that works. But what it doesn't say is that every day at boot up I need to run an Office App before doing anything with third-party software.

On bootups where I run an Office App immediately, everything is swell. On bootups where I don't, the installer problem occurs.

In other words, this isn't a permanent solution. It's a daily ritual and a hassle. Very minor, but a hassle nonetheless.

>> Method 2: Install Office from an Administrative Installation

This isn't an option for a home user with a CDROM.

>> Method 3: Apply the AllowLockdownMedia Policy

I haven't tried this because I'm always logged-in as an Administrator, and it's offered as a solution to fix non-admin user problems.

You found a good document, Radu, but it's just a little bit shy of a true solution. Heck, I searched the knowledgebase and didn't find this document.

Sooooo, any other ideas?

I'm beginning to think I need to re-install my Office apps. Grrrrr.

Hi Mike,

I'm afraid we were unable to find any other workaround for your problem.

Reinstalling Office, well, should do it...
