I have run into several closed auctions that had my pictures on them.
I have all my pictures at AW and often use the same ones over and over again myself. I was wondering, if someone steals my pictures AM I PAYING FOR THIS? I realize if they copy them I am NOT being charged.
If they take the link to my pictures, do they need my pass word to get into them? Or it is free for them to take and I pay the bill?
How can I protect my pictures on AW from being stolen by a link?
And what do you suggest I do to not have them copied?

I'll tell you what I do.
Create a logo (with your eBay username or whatever) that you can place on the bottom corner of your image. I even let part of the logo overlap the item so that they can not crop it out. People viewing your pics will understand that the logo is just overlapping the item for copyright reasons. As a matter of fact, most won't even notice it. Then, if someone steals your pic, write them and demand it be removed. It is a Federal Offence. Don't let anyone tell you any different. If you created it originaly, you have 100% rights to it. I am a graphic designer by trade am very familiar with the process.
If you have Photoshop, it is easy to add the logos. It takes a little extra time to do that but if you are using the same pic for several auctions, you are saving time anyway.

Hello,
<br />
<br />
A tip for avoiding people trying to copy your images :
<br />
<br />
There is a JavaScript you can enter into your default listing text that will not allow users to right-click on your images and copy them.

richierich,
Sorry about that.
All someone needs to do to steal your images is to look at the source code of your auction, or right-click on it and copy the URL. There is no option to make your images need a password when you want them easily available to view in your listings.
If someone steals your images themselves, you wouldn't have to pay for them however if they steal just the URL of your images and use them in their auction then you would be subject to image hosting only fees.
If you ever find someone is stealing your images by using the URL, email [email protected] to notify them so they can take action against the thief and request a refund for those charges (from us).

OK, so if the URL is stolen - I pay! Anyone can copy it and use it, with out my knowledge and I pay for it! WOW, that even makes me madder!
Enabling right click could help, but CAN you help me. Do I copy and paste the following:
<script language="javascript">
function noRightClick() {
if (event.button==2) {
alert('You can NOT Right-Click on this page -- but you CAN Left-Click.')
}
}
document.onmousedown=noRightClick
</script>
Can I put that in my global preferences? Or does it need to be at the top of the page?
As for the AW refund - YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! All the work one has to do is not worth the NICKEL refund! My time is worth more. Now if AW made this a less time consuming process, it would be one thing. I chalk it up to a donation to AW!
Yes, you can place that in your global preferences and it will still work. It doesn't actually have to be at the top of the page of code to work correctly.
In addition, under the payment plan you are on even if someone did steal the URL from your images you don't pay any image hosting fees anyway so you would never see it show up in your statement or ever need to request any refunds.

"In addition, under the payment plan you are on even if someone did steal the URL from your images you don't pay any image hosting fees anyway so you would never see it show up in your statement or ever need to request any refunds."
Does this mean, I can launch my auctions direct at ebay and not even pay the NICKEL?
Not that I like that idea, I like to schedule them. But it would be nice to know.
That is correct, under the plan you are on now you do not pay any image hosting fees ever. You can list directly at eBay if you want, with no charge for the images you use in your auctions.

christopher, christopher, christopher,
I feel betrayed! You said "

BUT you failed to tell me that that will NOT help at all because if they enlarge the picture they can still copy it!
Can you pass this suggest on to the programmers to load the no copy stuff to the enlargement? I can not see why any AW user would have a problem with not being able to copy there own enlargement in an auction. Why would they want to in the first place.
I do not have any type of software that allows me to put my name on the picture without totally blocking out a good portion of the picture.
