Wrote earlier about changing my background color. I use your blank templett and redesigning the way my auctions look. I'm going from white background to #fffe8 which is a tan. When I preview this auction, it don't show tan, still shows white but the colors of my graphics are tan and it don't look good with out a tan b/ground. I need you to please look at this problem. A blank templett should allow me to do this and I'm using html.
Please go to my pending auctions and view New Test and you will see what I'm talking about.
Thank you,
Kajn'

Hi Kajnrose,
Looks like I missed you earlier today! Sorry about that.
I don't see that color in your HTML for the body. I see this:
<BODY LINK="#0000ff" VLINK="#800080" BACKGROUND="Image6.jpg">
This has an image as a background. That tag for body background is <body bgcolor="">

Look at it again or make sure your looking at the correct one. I've been trying to figure this out since early this morning and would love to have it fixed before I go to bed.
Thanks for helping. I'm still here.
Thanks - Kajn'

Is there not anyone on the board today and last night????
I spent one hour redesigning my auction and 16+ hours on trying to get it to work in AW. What's the problem here????
I don't have all day and night and then the next day to work on a background color. When should this be so difficult? It's AW is why it's so difficult.
I will spend the rest of the day pursuing other auction software that I bet will give me better service than an "I'm sorry I passed you up from Brian at 11:15pm last night".
On blank templetts there should not be any problems with the b/g colors so what's the deal here???
Also, if you don't supply your customers a phone number for technical and billing help and no one is around to help on this message board, how can you justify charging fees when we can get around the clock help here? Isn't there something wrong with this picture? This is an issue that should take 2 minutes to solve. It's simply a color code or as simple.
I will go elsewhere if I dont' have this solved today.
Unhappy Kajn here!

Hi kajnrose,
I know I was looking at the correct one because I see you made the changes on it that I recommended. I also noticed that this doesn't help either.
I know that for the main templates you cannot change the bg color. After testing this in my account it seems that you cannot change the bg color for a blank template either. In this case "blank" refers to not having a preset style, although the bg tags are complete with a preset "white."
If you want to use that bg color with your images you will not be able to use the templates.

Hi Brian,
<<I know I was looking at the correct one because I see you made the changes on it that I recommended.>>
Your probably right b/c I made thousands of changes only to find out I can't use a different color on any of my auctions. This is sickening and it will cause me to go elsewhere. Anytime it takes constant work as I've put into my auction site/designs to find out after 24 hours, I can't use it. I opt to use a blank templett and can't put a b/gr color. A SIMPLY COLOR CODE!! Thank you AW for nothing. I will be gone by end of week. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.
THE ONLY THING THAT WILL KEEP ME HERE IS TO GIVE ME AND ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS THE OPTION TO USE A COLOR. THAT ISN'T HARD B/C I CHECKED INTO THE HTML. WHY CAN'T BLANK BE BLANK? SIMPLE, BLANK MEANS NOTHING IN THE DESCRIPTION. THERE SHOULD BE A PLACE TO SAY...."USE DEFAULTED WHITE BACKGROUND OR INSERT YOUR OWN".

Are you saying there is a way to get around this???
You said....
"If you want to use that bg color with your images you will not be able to use the templates."
What exactly are you saying? Is there a way to use AW and not use a templett? If so tell me what I need to do. Are does that simply mean to leave AW?

Hi kajnrose,
I am going to do some more tests to see if I can use HTML to override the bg color settings. It seems strange to me that we aren't able to change the bg color on a blank template, but that might be how it is set up. I will do some tests and let you know what I find.

Hey Brian,
Thank you so much!!!!
Gosh you can't imagine how tired and exhausted I am from working on this all day yest and into midday today.
That would make me very happy to be able to use background color code #FFFFE8 on this design. So far that seems to be the only problem.
I am just fixing to begin another design for another type of item I list so I will be here at my computer.
So if you can come up with another way I can use my templetts with your blank templett's, I would be forever grateful and no one could get me to move from AW.
Thanks so much - Kajn'

kajnrose -
The easiest way that I have found for dealing with the blank template and having my own way with the HTML code is to put >everything< inside one large table.
From there, you can set the overall bgcolor. Then, in each row, you can set up other subordinate tables. You can set different fonts, and you can modify the placement of text and images.
This is pretty much how the standard AW templates operate.
I do recall reading some HTML guide a while back that indicated multiple tables "fill in" faster during a page display, rather than tons of text, simply because the browser has to construct each of the parts of the elements - rather than the whole page. Don't know if that is true, but I use it.
Right now, the basic bg on my auctions is white (for winter). Previously, I used a light yellow for autumn. I have no idea where spring will go...
Hope that helps, 'cause I recognize your frustration. If you need some sample code from an "old" auction to look at, send me an e-mail: [email protected]

Hi kajnrose,
I didn't have any luck experimenting with the code, but kahml's suggestion would definitely work. Good tip Kahml!

I also thought it was a great idea until I tried it. I inserted one table and then copied & pasted all my text, etc., into it. Then when I viewed it, it shows the entire page the tan color instead of just inside the table. So how does one stop that or can someone give me instructions on how to get started with the table. I thought once the table was there and then doing the color change that the color would only be in the table. This is absolutely driving me bonkers and I have a full time job and wont' be able to finish this project that should not be that hard.
Brian send this delimma to your support people b/c I'm leaving AW if this is not settled with something easier for the blank pages.

Hello kajunrose,
Using a table should definitely work, so there may be a problem with the way you have formatted your table. Can you give us an example of the code you have used to format your table, and we'll take a look?
Thanks!

Diana, I've been helping kajnrose with her HTML (off-line) since last night.
The error she's describing is due to a <body> tag influencing the overall page. We've corrected it to use the BGCOLOR attribute of the <table> tag.
Thanks, tho'
