Okay,
I was having problems w/ AMPRO a week ago. I RESTORED my computer to WIN98 (not second edition).. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that AMPRO worked just fine for over a year on this computer.

AMPRO seemed to work just fine at that point.

Okay today. I goto OPEN AMPRO & GUESS WHAT, I GET THE SAME ERROR!! This is completely unacceptable. Whatever the FIX is, I need it now.

WHAT I DID. RESTORE MY COMPUTER to WIN98, DOWNLOAD MICROSOFT UPDATES & AOL. THEN I installed AMPRO it worked JUST FINE many times. I HAVE NOT CHANGED ANYTHIGN SINCE THEN.

I GET THIS:
AMPRO caused an invalid page fault in
module AWSITEEBAY.OCX at 015f:02a3c3a5.

FURTHER UPDATE:
I went to my backup plan. Have a 2nd computer here. That I just RESTORED to WIN98 SECOND EDITION. All I did w/ that one was to INSTALL Microsoft UPDATES & IE 6.0.

THEN INSTALLED AMPRO. ONE WEEK AGO AMPRO worked just FINE. NOW I GET THE SAME EXACT ERROR on it. I haven't used that computer at all for ANYTHING, it was meant as a back up in case, AMPRO somehow got corrupted on my main computer.

TELL ME HOW THIS CAN BE?? Please don't tell me to UNINSTALL & REINSTALL OR TO REDOWNLOAD The PROGRAM. I've done that SEVERAL TIMES. SAME ERRORS.

This is ridiculous & isn't worth paying 10 cents a month for letalone 14.95 plus 20 cents a listing. I have over 300 ITEMS THAT I NEED TO LIST. I NEEDED THEM LISTED 2 weeks ago & am sick of this.

OH wait

"What are you doing that causes this error to occur"

Okay Click on AMPRO Icon (or choose from Star Menu) to open program.

You get the ERROR TWICE & THEN AMPRO OPENS. You can OPEN A BATCH, but as soon as you click on an item to EDIT IT.. YOU GET THE ERROR, You can TRY TO CREATE A NEW Batch, but as soon as you try to CREATE A NEW ITEM, YOU GET THE ERROR..

Hmm a pattern of sorts?

OKAY I uninstalled the Program via CONTROL PANEL/ Add remove programs.

Re-installed from fresh DOWNLOAD of AMPRO, I get this at end of INSTALLATION:

FILE FAILED TO SELF-REGISTER
C:WINDOWS/SYSTEM/MSFLXGRD/OCX

ANd when you launch the PROGRAM You get the SAME ERRORS as stated in my FIRST POST. Problem seems to be related to either AW SITE or this WINDOWS FILE. I STILL DON'T get how this is happening on 2 independent computers, one w/ win 98 other w/ WIN98 2nd ED.

HELP.

Hi jhf2662,

The problems you encounter are related to a bad installation. The AMPro kit has downloaded successfully, because an incomplete download would have caused other errors. You need not download again, just reuse the saved kit.

Please uninstall the program again; but make sure there is just 1 installation on your hard disk. In case you happen to find several installations, please delete them all manually, by clicking Start > Run and entering the following command (which you need to update with the actual locations):

isuninst -f"C:\Program Files\AuctionWatch\Uninst.isu"

Then, install from the saved kit, while making sure that no other program is running at the same time.

Please let us know about your progress.

Thanks,

Hello,

I followed your instructionson the WIN98 Computer. Reinstalled from the same packet. Now I get a different Error. But from what I can tell, I can still run AMPRO, just so long as I don't try to Create an AMAZON Auction, I'm okay. But it's the same error sequence. Twice on start up & IF u try to create an AMAZON listing SAME ERROR & Program closes. However I seem to be able to edit & create EBAY Listings. Any further ideas?? I haven't tried it on the WIN98 SE computer yet.

Well well well Scratch what I said earlier, just went to open AMPRO again & GUESS WHAT.. SAME ERROR this time relating to EBAY. I DID EXACTLY what you told me to do earlier.

As of today it's 18 days since I've been able to use AMPRO. I still have 300 items to list. I am not happy. I don't see how this can be a "BAD INSTALLATION" As it WORKED the first time, after I had RESTORED my computers & then a few days later, I get these errors on BOTH COMPUTERS. 2 SEPARATE COMPUTERS.

AND NOW THIS:

Okay,

Went & followed your UNINSTAL instructions above again, I ONLY HAVE 1 copy of AMPRO installed, i'm 100% sure of that. Now your unistall instructions don't even work, I again get....

File Faild to Self-Register
C:|windows\system\mscomct2.ocx

And of course when you strat it up I get...
AMPRO caused an invalid page fault in
module AWSITEEBAY.OCX at 015f:02a3c3a5.

I need a course of action that WORKS. This is insane. Like I said before AMPRO worked for nearly 18 months w/ no problems. I have restored my computer twice now.

Hello,

You mention the uninstall procedure not working correctly for you, where in the uninstall process are you running into an error?

When you go to uninstall the copy you have, first close out of any and all programs you have running on your machine other than Explorer and Systray, especially any anti-virus software.
The same goes for when you go to run the installer, but this time around restart your machine after correctly unloading the program. Chances are that another running programs is somehow conflicting with your uninstall/install or download procedure, and not allowing you to even attempt a fresh install to use.

Christopher,

I didn't mean the UNINSTALL process didn't work. I was saying that basically after uninstalling w/ the process provided & then re-installing. AMPRO still functioned in the same way. I will try this again & will make sure that nothing at all is running. EXACTLY as you have stated.

If you ask me this is ridiculous. As I've never had problems w/ installing AMPRO before, and I have installed it many times over the last 18 months. Will try some more though, but this is wasting time, and time is money.

Hi jhf2662,

I understand your frustration, but the software program you are working with right now is the same one you had working before.

There are no ongoing issues with the Pro software being unable to install correctly, so the workarounds we keep going over with you will provide results once we/you can stop whatever has been corrupting it in this process.

I'm back,

I followed your instructions to the T. Guess what it WORKED. I was so happy, but was scared to close the program.

Guess what, I just closed the program. I checked w/ CTRL ALT DEL. TO make sure nothing was running except SYSTRAY & EXPLORER.

Went to re-open Program. SAME ERRORS, all over again. I REPEAT. I have followed your instructions to a T. So I guess, everytime, I want to use AMPRO, I need to go thru this long process, uninstall, re-install, then keep AMPRO open until I'm done w/ my work.

WOW...

No I'm not happy. But this makes no sense, care to tell me, what programs could be affecting AMPRO, when none are open??

I am not expert on AM Pro, but I am a professional software developer. Some of the errors you are getting are related to very standard .OCX files that are packaged with the Microsoft development environment. If they are failing to register (keep in mind these are very standard, very common, and very reliable controls made by Microsoft) then you have some sort of problem with either Windows or your system registry.

As you stated, you have reinstalled Windows numerous times and have got the same errors. This tells me that something is preventing windows from being able to properly register components. This kind of problem is occuring outside of AM Pro. Sounds like you might have some hardware issue preventing Windows from registering components. I would try manually registering the components outside the install package. If something like MSFLXGRID.OCX fails to register manually, then you know you have some other problem on your operating system/hardware level.

Having the program crash as certain steps would further reinforce the possibility of you not having components registered in the registry. i.e. If you don't have MS Flex Grid registered then every attempt AM Pro tries to open a grid to use it, it will crash. So will any other software program that uses that control as well.

THank you... My only problem w/ this, is that it's happening on TWO independent computers. These are E-machines, using RESTORE SOFTWARE CD's that came w/ them.

They BOTH worked fine for 18 months w/ AMPRO. AND I have RESTORED before this, installed, uninstalled, etc, w/o all the hoops....

Right now, I've just jumped through all the hoops & have AMPRO open & I'll keep it open until, I'm done listing on Ebay... 280 or so auctions to go... but... It's what I have to do.. now...

How would I go about MANUALLY REGISTERING these files?? I'm not computer illiterate, but I'm not much for this kind of thing..

THANK YOU,
Jon

I can't really say for certain that you register components the same way in Win98, but here is how it is done in Win 2K.

In your WinNT\system32 (Win98\system32 in your case) folder there is a program called regsvr32.exe You simply go to the command prompt and type that command followed by the DLL or OCX file that you need registered. i.e:

REGSVR32 C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\MSHFLXGD.OCX

It will either say it suceeded or failed.

AW Support, why have you went quiet??

I'm still having the same issues. The solution above does not work.

The only way I can get AMPRO to work is by basically rigging it, by jumping thru hoops to get it uninstalled/installed & then keeping the program open forever.

Hi jhf2662,

As Yakooman said, there might be some problems with your Windows installations, most probably with the registry. Have you tried the manual registration of files? Did it work?

Please open a DOS prompt, move to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and enter the folowing commands:

- for the MSFLXGRD.OCX file,
regsvr32 "C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSFLXGRD.OCX"

- for the AWSITEEBAY.OCX, AWSITEAMAZON.OCX, AWSITEYAHOO.OCX files,
regsvr32 "C:\PROGRAM FILES\AUCTIONWATCH\LIBS\AWSITEEBAY.OCX"
regsvr32 "C:\PROGRAM FILES\AUCTIONWATCH\LIBS\AWSITEAMAZON.OCX"
regsvr32 "C:\PROGRAM FILES\AUCTIONWATCH\LIBS\AWSITEYAHOO.OCX"

Please check the output of these commands. If the output looks correct, please start AMPro, then close it and check if you see the errors again, either when restarting the program or after rebooting the computer.

Thanks,

-Radu

Did you try manually registering the components? It would seem to me that if you get the program to run once initially then it must have registered them during installation. That would mean at some point during the use of AM Pro that the registry or the actual DDL & OCX files are becoming corrupted.

You could find this out by starting with a fresh install of windows and AM Pro. Before you run AM Pro try to register all the components that where listed in the previous post manually. If they all succeed then proceed to use the software, it should work okay. Once you exit you stated that you no longer can use the software. At this point try once again to register the components manually. If they fail then you know that either your registry or your DLL/OCX files are now corrupted.

Alternately you could start with a fresh install of windows, then install AM Pro and before you enter the program do a backup of your registry. When/if the program fails to operate you can restore your registry. Try to use AM Pro again. If it starts working again then you know something is corrupting your registry, if it still does not work then you know something is corrupting your actual DLL/OCX files.

Since you said that you are getting the same problem on two different machines that it works previously on that got me thinking... Since you are using an older version of windows and AM Pro probably is using the most current versions of the components available it makes me think that there is a backward compatibility issue that requires a current service patch for your version of Windows. It is always a good idea to get the latest service pack for Windows, but perhaps in this case it might fix your problem too.

YAKOOMAN, Thank you for your support. I can tell you that on one machine (WIN98 SE) I restored & then downloaded WINDOWS 98 SERVICE Pack & IE 6.0 right off the bat. SAME ERRORS.

2nd machine (WIN98). RESTORED. INSTALLED AOL 7.0 which comes w/ IE 5.5. SAME ERRORS. Too completely different setups. SAME ERRORS.

This doesn't make sense..

They sure don't mind charging 12.95/mo when they can't deliver.

Hi Jon and Gary,

Could you please answer the 2 questions below, and correct the succession of events if I got it wrong:

- you formatted the hard drive
- you installed Windows 98 again; did you do it from a clean Windows CD, or some backup system?
- you installed AMPro in a clean, new directory
- did the error start immediately? Did you get the errors after the first sync, or after the first reboot of the computer, or after first restarting the program?

Thanks,

That is definetly very odd since the configurations of windows are not the same. I am running my copy of AM Pro on Windows 98 SE as well as Win 2000 Pro. Being that my experience in troubleshooting exists mostly in the software development realm, I don't think I have any more ideas for you.

Even if we haven't found the solution yet, we are slowing creeping up on the cause. Maybe once we figure out where the hangup is I can think of a solution. I will continue to check this message thread and add any input I can.
