When using my normal DirectPC satellite connection I'm not able to edit and relist auctions.
I'm doing the following.
1. In ClosedListing I select unsold auctions and click Relist.
2. In the next page showing the auctions to relist, I click on edit for an auction to change the auction.
3. I get a "Page cannot be displayed" error. Refreshing the page or going back and trying again gives the same error.
If I use my dialup connection and do the same thing, everything works fine.
The only difference between the dialup and Satellite connections is the higher latency of the satellite.

Hello i may be wrong , but in our town you can use Satelite only to upload and not to download , if this is the case with you this is why you can't download the info.

Hello, My satellite system is two way. My dialup is only for backup when their is bad weather and the satelite is down.

I was surprised to read your post. I upgraded to 2 way satellite in June and except for a satellite problem here and there with Hughes. I have had no problems at all. In fact, it has made my life much easier when listing.
I have earthlink satellite.
I hope someone has an answer for you. Have you checked with your tech support at DirectPC?
What crossed my mind is the changing IP addresses. I am not real up on satellite technology but I do know that when I looked into setting DirectPC up in a store, there was mention of their changing IP addresses and that it would be difficult for us to contact computers between stores.
Do you think that could be the problem or has it worked in the past?

I also have earthlink satellite and for the most part its very good.
I don't think that it's an IP problem. What they meant by changing IP is that you don't have a fixed IP address and that it can change. While you are connected to a site, however, it shouldn't change. Your host site is given your IP address so it can post replies to you.
I should have mentioned earlier that the failure rate isn't 100% when I try to edit a relist. It's about 90%. About one in 10 works so there isn't a total failure.
Paula, since you also have earthlink, can you edit relists without problems. Everything else is fine on AW except for that.

I don't have any problems editing relists...
Can you give me step by step what you do... i.e. I go into Post Sale, Unsold Items...at this point I select what I want to relist...and click relist. That takes me to the Relist auction screen and that is where I do the relisting.
Are you doing it differently?

Hello Paula,
I am doing exactly as you outlined in your last post. When I get to the relist screen I click on 'edit' for one of the auctions to change the price or something else for the new auction.
It's when I click on 'edit' that I get the 'Can't display page' error.

If that is the case, then I don't believe your satellite causes the problem...
When you use the back up land line, do you use it right away or do you wait awhile?
Also, just to be sure, what do you do when you get that error?
Log out?
Re boot?
Go somewhere else in SM?

Both, The land line always works regardless of whether I do it right away or wait ahile. I have to close my browser before opening up the dialup connection otherwise it wil continue to use the satellite.

I can do any of the above. The rest of SM is stil usable. After I get the error I can click the back button on my browser and try again or do something else in SM.

Ok,... clicking the back button just gives you data that is already on your hard drive.
But your browser interests me...
1-what do you use
2-have you tried closing the browser, re-opening and trying again?
3-have you tried whiping out your cache and cookies?
I don't mean to be pushy but with most tech support issues you have to rule out stuff one by one and I'm sure you know that.
I just really don't think it is the satellite that is causing the problem. It is something else, I am almost positive... but finding that something else...

I'm using IE6. I tried it with Mozilla and Opera. With both it worked the first time, after that it didn't. I also tried IE6 on a different PC on my home network that had never accessed AW before. It worked the first time and after that it didn't. I'm running a proxy server for my satellite connection that looks like it might be the culprit. It does page caching and there might be a problem with that. I'm going to take a look at that tomorrow.

You just hit the nail on the head!
I ran into the same problem when I networked my desktop and laptop. I went through all the hoops (I had just upgraded to XP on the laptop)and Microsoft was really helpful but it wasn't them! I reached a really knowledgable tech at earthlink and we took about 2 days of trouble shooting and it was the proxy server I had set up.
They don't support networking on the DirectWay satellite system. They also use a proxy server (if you choose to use it in your browser but it has to be set up manually)
I hope I was of help. I never know the level of expertise when I "butt" in and try to help someone.

I don't think I would have narrowed it down without your help. I'll make a post back here tomorrow after I dig into the proxy server a bit. It does a bit too much page caching so I wasnted to look at it anyway. On some pagesd I view alot, it always shows an old page not the current one so I have to hit refresh after I bring it up. I'll see if I can correct that also.
BTW, the reason I use the Proxy Server is speed. For some reason if you use NAT, downloads are limited to about 175kps. With the Proxy server it is as fast as the satellite is, sometimes int the 1000-1500 kps range.
