HI, I've been on this board so many times since we updated to v.4.2 this summer.
Heres the issue. I have followed every piece of advice from the board. The sync problem has never, never been worked out. I'm at a lost. I love your program but if I can't get it to work for me I'm going to have to look elsewhere. Please advise me what to do.
I use SMpro and my operating system is XP.
In short--I make a new batch, I upload says it fails. I check AW it didn't fail, it just took one of the auctions and the rest didn't sync. So I delete the one it tokk and upload, fails, but not really, and on and on....you get the picture. I have just lived with it but now I am listing more auctins than ever and need this to work properly...any help would be appreciated...Here's my latest error message when I tried to delete a picture. No update necessary.

Hi Cramer,

What you will need to do is synchronize first, minus synchronizing the batch. We will need to get your images to match up from online to offline. If your synch halts on an image, you will need to delete the image from the image bar, and continue with the sync process until it is completed. Sometimes you have to delete more than one image -- it is the only way to get through the process. After it finishes, you can upload those images online, and then reimport them in pro, so you don't have to synch again.

After you do this let us know if you continue to have problems with the synch.

Regards,

Sonya

Hi Sonya,
I always sync first and it never has a problem. Only when I'm trying to do ANYTHING else. Pics, batches, single listing....

Hi Cramer,

Do you have any images in those batches have not been uploaded yet? Are they in your image bar only, and not online? If that is the case try uploading those images online and then synchronizing -- this way your images match.

Sonya

Hi Cramer,

Please try moving that listing to its own seperate batch, and uploading the original batch again. This way we can see if the synch halts on just that one item, or if it's going to halt on others. Please let us know if you can upload the batch minus that particular item.

Sonya

Hi Sonya,
Thats the whole point. It does goes on the AW site, it just says it failed and it takes only one item at a time. And each item says it fails. It is on the site now.

Hi fawnie,

Please hit the details button the next time you try to synch and it fails, and let us know what it says.

Also, try some of the basic stuff first, save your batch and restart your machine, then try again.

fawnie, NO SOLUTION! As you can see, they stop trying to help you when they can't solve it simply. This has been an issue for us since last summer. No support!

Hi cramer,

Just an idea to throw out that might be causing the problem and the reason why AW is not able to pinpoint it.

I use SMPro and Win XP also, on a dial-up modem connection. I live in the rainy state of Washington and periodically my "clean" phone line does get some static in it which of course plays heck with an internet connection.

My point is the ONLY time I have a bad synchronization problem is when I run into a bad or deteriorated modem connection through my ISP. I mean the absolute only time.

I fight for a good connection at times... it's not my ISP nor my equipment... it's just ancient analog phone lines trying to do a digital job.

When I receive a bad synch error the first thing I do is disconnect and redial my ISP until my phone routing gets a clean line - I can tell by the speed of my connection whether it's good or not. If not, "click" I hang up and dial again.

Yeah, it can get old, but I've learned that a few minutes redialing to get a good "clean" connection saves more time in the long run (and frustration).

Once I have a reconnect I can synch again without deleting or changing anything and the synch works great. Oh, I upload my images from SMPro also.

Not sure if this is your issue, but it works for me and I wanted to pass it on.

Best Regards
Greg

Retro...we have Cable internet. Everything worked fine until last summer when we updated to V4.2 of AW. Now, we cannot seem to sync properly. Thanks for your suggestions, though.

Hi Cramer.
I am much more of a novice at this than most, but one of the reasons I took so long to start auctions after my store opened (several months) is because first I couldn't get my images to import from my Access database inventory to either SMBE or SmPro, then I couldn't get them to sync during upload either. I know the first half of that is not your problem, but it seems SmPro still has lots of different kinds of glitches in the various possibilities to sync images. I couldn't blame it on my connection because I have cable internet. I couldn't abandon my Access inventory because SmPro is not designed to sync/work with online inventory and I want to track things somewhere I can manage my own categories. I also got tired of yelling at the computer.

I got around it by going to embedded layouts, but there are some big potential disadvantages:
-- You would have to be able to create your own lengthy html easily, it's too much to type out (any netpage generating software would work) and do some copying and pasting of various things. It helps if you enjoy navagating around several complex programs running at once.
-- listings have to be created one by one unless they are exact duplicates and can be copied one by one.
-- the images do not appear in your online inventory or Gallery. I hear SmPro is not designed to sync with online inventory anyway, so the only disadvantage there for me is that AW has no way to get an embedded image into the AW Storefront Auction Gallery for the eBay viewers, but they are working on it. Disappointing, but not the end of the world. The ebay sellers don't get images in their sellers lists of items or ebay store either unless they add the extra 25 cents a pop for a gallery image. I run my store images differently (without embedded layouts)so they all appear in my online inventory. Even then, SmPro is not designed to sync perfectly with the store yet so quantities and folders have to be online edited after upload, and SMBE is not designed to sync with the store at all.

The advantages for me, however, are many (if these are the kinds of things a person likes):
-- the eBay viewers can't copy your image (at least I tried and couldn't). They can if it is inserted, but not if it is embedded because it is visible, but it's not really on the page they are viewing. It doesn't highlight and it doesn't print either. I do custom graphics I hope to eventually sell, and I need the 'privacy'. They would have to go to their monitor screen with a camera and do a photoshoot to get it.
-- I am no longer dependent on anyone for gallery icons, picture position limitations, where I can put text and how it wraps or what lots of other things look like and function like.
-- I can still avail myself of all the wonderful AW specialty template themes like the store template, because it does not affect the html of the basic AW template.
-- all my image sync-process problems were instantly and permanently over because I control more of the process. I don't sync any more from my database, it's just there for my reference, and I don't use the 'attach image' function. My html pulls the image in instead, and I control my html. No more problems with AW complicated filenames and extra numbers in my alphabetical image lists. All that loads in is the nice short common sense (to me) name I give it directly off my image file in my computer. And since I don't upload images with my listings, my listings as an independent bulk process all get sucked right up too.
As long as I keep them under 38Kb, I can hit the SmPro 'Add image' icon, highlight 10-15 images in my image transfer file all at once, hit 'open', and bam!-- AW sucks them all up one after another like a soda thru a straw. Hit 'sync' and they all get sucked up into my online image hosting list-- no impossible error messages, no frustration, no more temptation to punch-out my computer screen. If I push the Kb limits to 45-55 then sometimes I get a stall and have to go back and upload the rest, but I never have problems under 37-38kb (AW recommends 30 or less). And I bypass the trying to sync with attached images. If I were trying to do hundreds of images at once and hundreds of listings at once per batch, not sure how that would work.

This may not be your cup of tea because it creates other work and problems, but I enjoy the other kinds of work more than image sync problems and other restrictions of specified layouts. It may take me more time, but it is not taking me as much time as when I had to keep re-syncing and writing customer service just to try to list. It just depends on what we sell, what frustrates us more, and how we need to run auctions.

If none of this helps,--just ignore it.

Good Luck!

Hello,

This is just one small thing to try, but it has worked for another XP/Pro user. Are you running your desktop in XP mode? If so, try changing it to the 'Classic' mode instead, then running the software.

Let us know the results of your efforts.

Hello cramer,

I am not sure how you would go about switching to classic mode in XP, but there should be directions for this in the Windows Help file.

If the problem is not resolved by switching to classic desktop, please email me at [email protected], and I'll send you a patch that might do the trick.

RADU ROCKS!!!!!!!!! Thanks Diana and Radu for helping me figure this out! I have had such a hard time with this since last summer, I was unwilling to give this service up even though I was having to do "weird" things to get it to work. Radu came in and found a strange folder on the AW program system. Thanks again, Radu and Diana.
