Well, I just signed up, downloaded Sales Manager Pro, and opened it. The first thing it does (repeatedly) is search for FrontPage 2000 so it can install it! It then asks me to insert the disk (which I no longer have). Even so, I wouldn't want to install FrontPage over the existing edition since all my websites are on my hard drive.

Finally after 4 or 5 repeated tries of it searching for FP and telling me to insert the disk) and my clicking on "close" and "cancel" on the error box, SMP does finally open up. What's going on?

I sent this problem via email to Customer Support but it takes two or more days to get a response that way, so thought I'd try here.

Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom,

I received your email request but had actually asked for additional help, which is why you have not heard back from us yet. Let me check again and find out what is causing this. You are on XP, correct?

Regards,

Sonya

Hi Tom,

I have heard back from our engineering team regarding this issue -- it is actually a known problem but unfortunately there is no surefire fix. We recommend that you make sure your computer is up to date, including Office. Here is the link for the update site:

http://update.microsoft.com/

If you continue to have problems after doing all your updates, let me know so we can troubleshoot this further.

Regards,

Sonya

Well, I did go to the Microsoft Update page as you suggested, downloaded all the updates, and still get the "FrontPage2000" box upon trying to open Sales Manager Pro.

But now it only takes 4 times hitting "cancel" to make it stop and show the SMP main screen.

Still it's not something I want to go through every time I open the program, and it might mean other problems exist.

If you have no other ideas about fixing it, I'm afraid I'll have to request a cancellation of the Sales Manager service.

Thank you,
Tom Brown

Hello Tom,

Please start FrontPage prior to starting SM Pro. Just start FrontPage and close it immediately, and then start SM Pro. Will SM Pro still search for the FrontPage installation?

Thanks,

-Radu

Hello:

As you suggested, I opened and closed FrontPage then tried starting SM Pro. Same problem. I then tried opening FrontPage and LEAVING IT OPEN while I tried starting SM Pro. Same problem.

Perhaps it would help if I copy exactly what I'm seeing on the screen, so here goes:

I click on the SM Pro icon to start it and IMMEDIATELY a dialogue box appears, stating:
"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft FrontPage 2000." Below that is a field, "Gathering Required Information" with the time boxes moving across the field (indicating "working" I guess).

Next, a dialogue box stating "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the "Microsoft FrontPage 2000" disk and click OK. Below that a field titled "Use Source" which is prefilled with highlighted Microsoft FrontPage 2000. Beside that field is a "browse " button which displays My Computer - all files. [But as I said before I DON'T WANT TO INSTALL OR CONFIGURE FrontPage since I have a bunch of websites already build in FrontPage on my computer. I no longer have the disk.]

Next, an error message: "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Microsoft FrontPage 2000. The Windows I\installer cannot continue." I click the OK button and the whole sequence starts again!

After clicking the "cancel" button four times I finally open up SM Pro.

I don't know if this additional info will help, but if if a fix can't be found, I supposed I could live with this problem since I really want to use Vendio. Or I might find it too irritating and want to cancel my Vendio subscription.

Do you think it will affect any other Vendio functions if I leave it this way?

Thanks,
Tom Brown

I really need to get started with some listings...is someone working on a "fix" for my problem?

I paid for a couple of help calls per month -- should I try that, or is it basically the same people who answer emails and participate here on the Board?

I do appreciate the suggestions so far but not having heard anything back today, I'm getting a little worried...

Thanks,
Tom

P.S. I'm probably willing to go ahead and try Vendio even with the FrontPage issue, but I'd like to be sure that it's not going to affect other Vendio functions for me.

Hello Tom,

The Front Page issue definitely affects only the SM Pro start up. There is no impact on how SM Pro or other Vendio functions work. We will continue to check for possible causes and post back.

Thanks,

-Radu

Well, unfortunately, the same problem occurs when I "synchronize" from within Sales Manager Pro.

I don't think I'm willing to go further with Vendio at this point. Who knows what other functions it may affect?

Please cancel my monthly subscription, or tell me how to cancel it.

Sorry, and thanks for trying,
Tom

I'm baaaack...I hope!

Well, after trying the various eBay tools, and a few others, I'm really convinced that Vendio has the best listing and post-sale tools out there. Very intuitive, and just what I need to meet my goal of 1000 listings per month.

So even with my FrontPage error messages (which I'm sure are a problem with my computer) I've decided to ask Vendio on bended knee to take me back.

I sent messages through the Customer Service channel, as well as replying to their regular email. And I'm posting my request to reopen my account here in the Community Forum as well. I just hope I can retain the same user name and everything else as before.

I really need to get going on my listings, so if any Customer Service person reads this, please help me get reinstated as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Hello,

Your account is actually still open and available for use, your just not setup on any payment plans currently.

Click on the Sales Manager tab along the left side of the page and select a plan and you should be ready to start listing again.

Christopher

Thanks, Christopher!

It's great to know all I have to do now is sign up for a plan again, etc.

I couldn't believe some of the CLUNKY programs out there which seem to make it HARDER to sell on eBay, not easier. And I'm not a novice, either.

Like I said, I'll live with the FrontPage error box in return for what now looks like the best auction tools on the market, especially for the price.

Thanks for the quick response,
Tom Brown
