Anyone know an actual telephone number for PayPal? I know they read this forum, and I hope they E-MAIL ME SOON.

After an eBay auction completed, I received an e-mail from PayPal saying that I had received cash from the buyer. My e-mail address is the same as my PayPal ID. The e-mail said that I had to follow a link to register to claim the money. I have been a registered user for quite some time, and my e-mail address (also my paypal ID) was spelled correctly because I did receive the e-mail.

THE MONEY IS MISSING as it does not show in my history/account balance, and it's a larger sum than a mere $5 or $10 too. I have e-mailed PayPal daily for three days in a row and have not gotten a response. I can find no phone number on their website.

Since they are a banking institution, I would expect this problem to be dealt with more quickly than this. I would also expect an actual phone number, as if this were a bank, I would most likely be able to make a call and clear things up within 10 minutes.

Does anyone have any advice to expedite PayPal's handling of this matter?

Thanks much,
Lane

It sounds like the buyer made an error on your email address. Contact the buyer and ask them if the payment is showing as 'unclaimed' in their history log. There are several ways a buyer can enter the wrong email address and you will get email asking you to register to claim your funds.

If you need to call PayPal click on the 'help' link on their web site and scroll to the very bottom, you'll find this dialog.

Hi,

This sounds like an issue of the user not inputting the correct email address when they sent the payment. I can check on the transaction if you email me at [email protected] with the sender's email address and your account email address.

"I have been a registered user for quite some time, and my e-mail address (also my paypal ID) was spelled correctly because I did receive the e-mail. "

This usually means that the buyer put a . at the end of your address or substituted .net for .com or vice versa. Email servers will accomodate these areas and deliver the resulting email to your address. However, PayPal doesn't. As stated, the payment should show up in the buyer's account as "Unclaimed". If you re-read the email, it may say that you need to register in order to claim the funds. Have the buyer cancel the payment and send him a request for money, so that you know that it goes to the correct address.

If the buyer insists it shows as "Completed", double check the email you received informing you of payment, and verify that it originated from a PayPal email server. Buyers have been known to fake the "You've got money" email, in hopes that the seller will ship without verifying receipt of payment into his account.

The problem is solved - thanks to those who offered advice.

PayPal's system does not like a period added to the e-mail address. The address is NOT recognized as holding an account, but IS valid enough to receive e-mail from PayPal stating that a signup is needed to collect funds.

The sender had to cancel the pending payment and resend the funds to the address minus the period at the end.

It took 4 days before PayPal e-mailed me back since my first e-mail(and then wasn't really helpful), but their telephone support people were great and helping to identify the problem (although they could do nothing either, and ultimately I had to deal with the sender).

Thanks all,
Lane
