I just opened a trial store, and I was playing around - trying to determine how the customer will see everything. I had 3 of the same item in my shopping cart, and there were only 2 put into the store. I attemped checkout and never got a message saying that I was ordering more than possible. I did not confirm the order, but I did get to the point that I would just click on confirm to finish. Would I have gotten an error when I confirmed?
After confirming the order, you would have gotten an "error in checkout" message. It would tell you that the item is not available in the requested quantity, and provide you with the available quantity. I hope this helps!
