I'm exploring the use of a line of Java Script code to place in my store item description HTML that will generate a "pop-under" window for site traffic generation.

Is there anything to prevent the JavaScript from working?

The JavaScript I am looking at is from AddMe.com and it is their EZTraffix Free membership site.

I would prefer to place this one time only in my store's HTML, but since I no longer have room in my store's description, I have no choice but to place it in each item's HTML description.

The pop-under is not intrusive like a pop-up, and I think it would generate more visitors to my store.

Please advise if Java Script will work on Vendio item descriptions; IF Java Script is allowed; if there is a single better place on my store to place the JavaScript code.

Here is what will be placed:

<!-- Start of EZ Traffix Code - http://www.eztraffix.com -->
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="http://tools.addme.com/servlet/pop?id=170411"></script>
<!-- End of EZ Traffix Code -->

Thanks,
Greg

Hello Greg,

I am not aware of anything that would prevent you from being able to use Javascript in your descriptions. I'll pass it by our engineering group, but I believe that unless you are listing to eBay (there are restrictions on certain Javascript functions on eBay) it should be OK.

I am not sure what site the pop-under will be promoting, but please note that section 3.18 on the Stores section of our User Agreement prohibits using a Store listing as an advertisement, or inserting an advertisement into a Store listing:

Thanks,

Diana

Thanks Diana!

The pop-under service that I am considering is from EZTraffix.com - and is intended to promote traffic BACK to my site - in a nutshell, for every four visits to my site (the Vendio store), my link will appear under another EZTraffix.com's members site. What appears in that person's window is my storefront with a small EZTraffix.com strip across the top.

Now, this is where it gets kind of gray. With my JavaScript from EZTraffix in my HTML, nothing is changed on my actual storefront - absolutely nothing. Nothing occurs while my Storefront is active in the viewer's window.... it all strictly STAYS full-fledged Vendio Storefront (ie Retro Bargains - with Nothing visible from anywhere else.

The pop-under does not work until my storefront window is closed or navigated AWAY from - then only ONE window pops-under - not multiple windows with gazillions of ads... just one. And it can be a link to business, entertainment, or a number of about 1 dozen or so categories.

EZTraffix requires sign-up for its free service and they also strictly prohibit any adult oriented material websites.

As for functionality and staying within the Vendio requirements of section 3.18, I don't see a problem with it.

The main problem seems to be within the Store itself - I just tested one of my storefront items and the pop-under doesn't work when leaving the store.

I do use eBay, and I do understand that eBay prohibits the use of JavaScript - tried adding this to my About Me page and eBay's JavaScript testing routine located it and wouldn't let me save my page edits.

The whole intent here is to get people to my store. After the store window is closed, I don't see what effect or problems it would pose on Vendio at all.

I appreciate any clarification and assitance on this.

Thanks,
Greg

Hello Greg,

I am checking into this, I am not sure if there is a problem with this or not.

I will post back or email you when I have more information.

Thank you for your patience.

Hello Greg,

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks as though inserting a javascript function in your Store HTML that would create a pop-under on a remote computer would be considered a violation of our User Agreement.

So, while javascript in Store listings is not prohibited, this particular function would not be allowed.

Thanks,

Diana

Thank you Diana, nothing has changed... on my end.

Suggest updating the User Agreement to clearly specify this as a violation - as written now "pop-unders" are not addressed.

That would clear any gray areas and instead of a "looks as though" it would be crystal clear.

I do appreciate you and the staff exploring this for me.

Best Regards,
Greg
