Am I mistaken? I believe that I read somewhere that I could create a new store from the inventory feed. I'm not sure where I read this. I believe it was in conjunction with the web hosting offered by Vendio. Am I correct?

No. I want to use the inventory listings and shopping cart, but build a new store. The store as presented does have some limits - front page, pages for additional info, etc.

Please don't tell me a new store is coming, as it is becoming too late in the selling year for such an event.

Based on what you just said im not sure if this is good or bad news, but there are no announcements currently as to when/if there would be any 'new' storefronts to work with.
