This particular template does have it's own embedded gallery display that scrolls across the top of the page. This particular gallery display does not have a way to define which items are displayed, as it simply includes all items for sale currently in the store.
If you use one of the templates that do not have it's own embedded gallery in it you can define the 'featured items' to display at the homepage display of your storefront, which you can choose when editing the store details for your items.
