We have corrected the character limit problem which some users were experiencing. The problem caused launch errors for both listings and re-listings which state “Location Too Long. Your item's location can not more than 45 characters.” The location referred to in this error message is the "city, state" field in the location section of the AW listing form. The field populates "Location" on the actual eBay listing.
Although eBay only allows this field to be 45 characters on their own listing forms, the old AW launching form allowed users to increase the character count to 256 characters. On Wednesday, we modified our launching process to use the eBay API to launch auctions. The eBay API also limits the number of characters allowed in this field to 45 and will respond with an error message if the number of characters exceeds 45.
Here is the plan to quickly stop this launch error from occurring:
1) For all auctions that are listed or re-listed, the “city, state” field will automatically be truncated to 45 characters.
2) For all new auctions listed using Auction Manager online, we have limited the “city, state” field to 45 characters, so you will not be able to input descriptions more than 45 characters.
3) For all new auctions listed using Pro and Business Edition, we will limit the field to 45 characters in the next release of each product. (Until the fix is released, the field will be truncated before launch to 45 characters so you will not see any errors).
You may now list all auctions that are currently in pending due to this error. Prior to listing, you may edit the field to change this text, or allow AW to truncate it for you. Please change your preference for this field at https://secure.auctionwatch.com/my/acct/seller_site_specifics.html?site_id=1 so that all new listings have less than 45 characters in the “city, state” field.
