I am looking for items to sell online at ebay. I am a mom of 2 kids and my husband works full time, and I work part time. I sell on ebay to keep some extra money coming in. But I just sell my kids things as they outgrow them. This has been helpful........but it's just not enough. I am looking for something to sell that will bring in enough extra money to be able to stay at home with my kids, and maybe go back to college and get my RN finally. Does anyone out there know where I can get stuff at a low cost, that will actually sell. I don't want Ginsu knives or tap lights. I want good stuff! Thanks!!

You should stick with stuff that you know something about if possible.
Estate sales offer lots of good stuff. Auctions with real auctioneers are an experience.
Look in the newspaper want ads in the same area as Garage Sales to see if any are listed. And of course garage sales. Church rummage sales are always good. Lots of stuff for cheap.
Good Luck.

Garage sales, rummage sales & estate sales are good, but there just aren't many. I live in Washington, and we get so much rain that really the only time that you can find those kinds of sales are June-August. I have months to go before the sales start up again! That's why I'm looking here. Keep those ideas comming!!!

I have family in Washington and the thrift shop business there is phenomenal. A great place to pick up items for resale.

I have some dog t-shirts (T-shirts for dogs) that I would let go real cheap. I'm just sick of trying to sell them -- they need a new approach or maybe could be sold at the flea market where people can see how cute they are.

Thrift shops are a good idea. We do have a TON of those around! But I wouldn't know what would sell and what wouldn't. Or if I did find something that might sell, I don't know what prices to set. That part I could learn easily enough though.

What types of things should I keep my eyes open for? What things do you all notice sell well?

You know, there are no absolutes here. It is very much hit and miss and trial and error. An item that gets no bids this week may do nicely next month.

Get out there, buy stuff that is in good shape and priced low, list it with good pictures and great descriptions, and see how you do. It takes leg work and lots of luck.

Try posting things for other people on a consignment basis. Talk with the owner of a store that is moving or going out of business. I've liquidated stock for a western clothing store that moved and for a shoe store that went out of business. Once it gets around that you do this, people will come to you and ask you to sell their stuff!

Hi I am kind of new to selling on ebay and like everyone else, I sold my daughters clothes. I only sold the big name brand clothes. People want big name brands such as Chicken Noodle, Tommy, and the best of all is Zoodles outfits if you have the socks and hairbows they do really really good. Look in thrift stores and if you see a Zoodle outfit get it. Cant go wrong, my little girls usually bring from 30-40.00 each. Good Luck

My basement, attic and evry other room in my house and my mom's has been emptied of everything that we don't want, need or use anymore. My husband thinks I've gone crazy!

Zoodles? I have never even heard of them. I know that my OshKosh, Levis, Tommy and Ralph always sell well. I'll have to keep my eyes open for some Zoodles. Thanks!

I've got Native American Jewelery that I'm trying to get rid of and another option for you is a friend of mine posted an ad in the paper stating (will sell your antiques or collectibles on the internet for you.) He has had a great response with it.

This reply is to many who have contributed and participated so nicely in this subject.
As you might guess, my sale items are mostly books and collectible paper items. It does not matter what you choose to sell as long as you take the time to research and learn. Go to yardsales, estate sales and real auctions to see what is available and do searches in the various auction services to see what the items that you have seen are bringing. Initially stay away from fads and gimmicks.
When you feel comfortable with a group of items, go whole-hog and sell. Don't forget that intelligent buying (haggling)is an important part of making money.
Before you start, KNOW your shipping and handling situation. That can be a major item.
As has been mentioned, do not be disillusioned if the item does not sell when listed. Polish up the description, make sure of the keywords and relist.
Lastly, online auctions must be fun. Never put yourself in a place where it becomes a chore.
The best of luck to you!

I may be able to help a bit. I've started the same way you did... just things around the house. And yes, my husband thought I was nuts! Since then my husband now buys things for me to sell and I list. Please shoot me an email and we can talk. [email protected]

If I were you I'd invest in a digital camera and hit the pawn shops. Ask them for a percentage cut if you sold some of their items off Ebay. Since prices on that stuff is negotiable you can even keep the difference if the bidding goes higher than any price you and the store owner agree on.

Then after you collect the money go back to the store and pay for it minus your cut and ship it out. You can surely get them to agree to some items and if you are successful and are moving their merchandise then you can add more to your list.

The thing is, Washington state is thrift shop heaven. I wish I could have chartered a plane the last time I was there. I have sold almost everything I brought home and now want to go back for more.

You just have to go looking. I buy things I would like to own. I search ebay categories to see what is selling and then go looking for those things. If you wouldn't buy it then probably no one else will either (junk I mean here).

We started on Ebay as a billiard dealer. We have since done antiques, paintings, and now we are dealing with sheets. As you are in stores, whether its a chain or independent, ask the manager what they do with items that the packaging gets broken on. We have picked up items for less than 1% of retail, taken digital pictures, and made alot of money. The best part is that you always have something different. Good Luck!

Hi,
I am also looking to find brand name childrens clothing to sell on Ebay, they must be pretty low priced and in excellent to great condition with no rips, tears, stains etc...I have looked at our thrift shops but it is not real large and things are hard to find. I would say half the items I actually keep for my own, haha. I have 3 and work part time but love Ebay so far.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am only interested in childrens clothing.
Thank you!!
I have my email notification on and will be happy to hear from someone =]

One of the things I got into was I talked to a friend who knows somebody in prison and who got me in touch with somebody, who makes indian jewelery. I get it next to nothing and it sells very nicely. (Make sure you have a P.O. Box if you do not want them to have your address)

Don't overlook the obvious-ebay. I sell wholesale lots in the Everything Else/wholesale category from time to time- and have occasionally bought there as well. In among the tap lites and ginsus there ARE some real wholesale offerings.
