I'm looking for the old style glass windchimes that were popular back in the 40's and 50's. You could buy them in the 5&10 cent store's and they had a round open metal top with 6-8 glass oblong pieces hanging down with Oriental flowers or inscriptions painted on each piece of glass.
I'm sure some of you will remember what I'm talking about. Maybe your Grandma or Mom had some hanging from their porch, they made the nicest "tinkling" sound.
Thanks for any information!

I've been searching for these chimes, too. I remember going to the 5&10 back in the 50's and buying my mother windchimes for Mother's Day when I was a small child. The chimes were made up of small rectangular pieces of glass, some painted with Japanese characters. Each was suspended with red thread from a brass- colored metal ring. The string was attached to the glass with a gold paper sticker. They weren't made to last, which is probably why they are so hard to find now. My memories of childhood summers include background music from these little chimes (since all the windows were open -- no air conditioning!) If you find a set, please let me know!

Hi I know a wonderful seller who makes glass windchimes. I had her make a set for my mother with all of the grandchildrens names on each piece of glass. They are very nice & sound beautiful. If you would like me to give you her info, email me at:

Thanks so much jgayhart! You made my day!
These are the exact windchimes I wanted and recall from years ago.
I too ordered 2 set's of them for myself and can't wait to get them.
I'm sure every time I hear them tinkle in the wind it will bring back a lot of memories from my child hood.
Thanks ever so much for sending me the link to the web site.

Oh my gosh! Just seeing those brings the sounds back to my mind! My Great Aunt always had these hanging on her shop in the back yard. I remember buying a new set each year because they would break so easily.
I might just have to get myself some of those. Thanks for posting this!
