I'm thinking about Purchasing a Server (Used, Since I can't afford a new one yet). My main mission is to host and maintain my small business website. I don't know jack about servers or how to use them but I'm looking to build a website containing a large data bank for products, Online secure Credit Card Information, and a Members Only Password Area are the main feature of my website.
I have DSL Connection and don't know if that is possible for a server or not but I would like to find a great deal and get the most for my money (Like ever one else) I was bidding on an HP L4 Server from ebay but however in the last few seconds before closing time it slipped by me for a closing cost of $414.00 (Really good deal from what I understand)
What I was wondering was what type of servers are decent to run a website these days and were can I find good used one I can possible get with out worring about it crashing in a couple of weeks after I get it.
Thanks So Much for all your help or any help or advice you can give

DSL Will work wonders for a server Just look in your local paper for a low cost used Computer get a network card to hook it up to the computer install Red hat linux and poof you have a webserver if you don't have much computer back ground Might want to look around your neighborhood for a local high school or college student to help in setting up and teaching you the ins and outs..
For a good Server Running on linux you need a computer with a minimum of 64 to 128 meg SDram, 5 or 6 gig hard drive and a 24/7 internet contection thats all it take if you have DSL they provide the fixed IP address you need, all you need to do is register the URL you can get a name server free right on line Just do a search Good luck http://www.Dman-N-Company.com

Check with your ISP as well. Those using regular home accounts most likely cannot run servers on that account. Business accounts are more expensive.
