Personally, I don't really "get" selling on Yahoo. I don't see how one can make a living unless they quadrupal (sp??) the work that ebay sellers do.

A while back I was looking for an alternative to ebay because of the fees and tried yahoo auctions. I placed a couple items, fairly priced, on yahoo and they went weeks without selling, put them on ebay and they sold quickly for much more then they were listed for on yahoo. The reason people use yahoo auctions is that it is FREE.

I keep hearing that one needs a different mentality to sell on yahoo vs on ebay, but I can't wait around for a month and keep relisting items in hopes they may sell when I can go someplace else, list the same item and sell it within 5-7 days.

Ebay may charge per listing but paying someone a say a buck or two from a 30 dollar (I don't remember their fees off hand) profit is better than paying zero fees on no profit. Now that Yahoo is electing to charge fees I feel they will lose the rest of their business to ebay or to other auction sites that don't charge fees.

Charging fees is not smart. Think about it, two auction sites charge about the same thing, on one site items sell most of the time, on the other site things sit for weeks and weeks without bids. Which one would YOU choose to sell on?

well, to the best of my knowledge Ebay has been down all day. If ebay is so great why haven't I been able to leave feedback for my customers or get into my ebay to bid on my watchlisted items?

I think we're all dead meat if Ebay is the only choice we have available. So I plan to maintain some listings at Yahoo.

cmbtboots; You are giving us an extreme example which would not apply for most Yahoo sellers. If everything I listed on Yahoo went weeks without selling and would sell quickly on eBay I would have returned to eBay long ago. But this just isn't the case. My slow moving items rarely do any better on eBay than they do on Yahoo. My sales might be a little better on eBay but not enough to justify eBay's fees.

Waste of time setting fees, Yahoo will lose out to Ebay and other sites.

Extreme? perhaps, but are you willing to pay eBay equalivent fees to sell on yahoo?
