I was just submitting some auctions when I noticed the following comment next to the "resubmit" option:

"In the event that your auction does not close with a winner we can automatically resubmit it for you. If you select this option, you will be charged subsequent listing fees at the time the auction is resubmitted."

From Yahoo!Chat - January 4

mcgaheeh asks: I have a few auctions that will automatically re-list themselves after Jan. 10th. Will I be charged a fee for these? If so, I will go ahead and cancel them. Please advise
y_auctions_guest: You will not be charged for any auctions listed before midnight PST on January 10th.
y_auctions_guest: any items that you relist will remain free.

They are either liars, or they are incompetent. I don't know which I would prefer.

Funny I just relisted quite a few items tonight and I seen or got no such message from yahoo during relist at all and all I could find about it was on the main auction page that stated They will start chargeing on the 10th.

I have been relisting a LOT, and I read everything that is different - so far, there is nothing about charging for relists if they run after the 10th.

I have notified friends to relist immediately - don't wait - tomorrow may bring bad news.

Sometimes when someone gets something like that - it spreads...

If you have any relists - RELIST NOW!!!

But if you go to Yahoo and look at their listing page, it says right there next to the resubmit auction that you will be charged. This is speculation. It's there right now:

amalgamated2000 is quite correct. If you have any items that will be relisted after the date the fees begin even if you listed them before you will be charged!! Any item auto-relisted after the fee date will be charged. So if you listed an item today you wont be charged, but if you opted for the auto-release, and it submits it after the 10th look out!!

What happens to items I currently have on auto-relist? Will I get billed automatically?

No, you will not be charged for auto-relisted items if the original item was submitted before January 10.

The above is a direct quote from the bottom of this Yahoo page:

I've read every word of the link, and cannot find anywhere that says relists will be charged for...

Please copy that statement and post it...

Go to the Auctions Home page. On the right is a column with Announcements - click on that and read the Q&As. It says auto listed items will not be charged for if the original item is submitted before Jan. 10th. Hope they don't change their mind next week!!

This is the Text that is showing up next to the Relist Link Right Now!

"In the event that your auction does not close with a winner we can automatically resubmit it for you. If you select this option, you will be charged subsequent listing fees at the time the auction is resubmitted."

Hopefully they don't mean it yet!

The transcript indicated they would not charge if the auction started before 1/10/00 - but who knows???

In the 01/04 chat they said they wouldn't
charge for those, twice. In the 01/05 chat
they said they wouldn't charge for those.
At the bottom of their listing fee
announcement they say they won't be charging
for those. But the person who started this
thread is correct, they have now changed
the submission form, which now states they
will charge for auto re-submits after 01/10.

I spent time re-listing auctions with auto
re-submit set to take advantage of this, and
now they are resorting to this odd 'ex post
facto' action. I was about to do my last
50 or so auctions the same way, but not now!

It wasn't bad enough that they gave such
short notice on the fees anyway (I guess
most people knew on 01/03, but they didn't
e-mail me until 01/05), but now I have to go
cancel all those auctions just in case they
decide to try charging me for those (even
though that fee message that is now present
next to auto re-submit on the submission
form WAS NOT there when I did all that
work)! I was about to do my last 50 or so
auctions the same way, but not now!

I received the same form message reply that
other have posted at AW when I voiced by
concern about the fees. I still remember
when they said they were going to do this
once before, only to ad banner ads to the
top of our auctions instead.

I am quite surprised the Yahoo isn't planning on closing its site for a 3 or 4 hours at midnight on Tuesday night in order to make the transition.

It's very confusing to do it the way they are.

The site appears to be closed right now. I get "page cannot be displayed" trying Auctions, Clubs and Mail.

Here is a copy paste of all that has been in print, some does conflict with the rest so I'm a bit confused now:
On fee announcement page
What happens to items I currently have on auto-relist? Will I get billed automatically?
No, you will not be charged for auto-relisted items if the original item was submitted before January 10.
http://auctions.yahoo.com/phtml/auc/us/promo/fees.html

1/4 chat transcript
I have a few auctions that will automatically re-list themselves after Jan. 10th. Will I be charged a fee for these? If so, I will go ahead and cancel them. Please advise
y_auctions_guest: You will not be charged for any auctions listed before midnight PST on January 10th.
y_auctions_guest: any items that you relist will remain free.
...
Please are auto re submits going to be charged a fee. I saw you say relists won't be and I don't know what that is really.
y_auctions_guest: Auto-resubmits will continue to be free up until January 10th.
y_auctions_guest: After January 10th, auto-resubmits will be treated as regular listings and will be charged an insertion fee.

1/5 chat transcript
What happens to auctions we have already placed and with autolist activated? Will we be charged fees for these?
y_auctions_guest: There are fees for auto-relist.
y_auctions_guest: Anything that is marked on auto-relist before the 10th but then launches after the 10th will not be charged.
...
Please spell out the fees for auto-submit versus relist with the dates.
y_auctions_guest: Any item submitted before the 10th with auto re-submit will not be charged even if the actual re-submit occurs after the 10th.
y_auctions_guest: Any auction submitted after the 10th with auto-resubmits will be charged for each subsequent listing.

Kasmoon,

Thanks for going to the trouble of producing
that! I thought about doing that, but
decided to use the time to move my items
elsewhere. You also caught a 2nd mention in
the 01/05 chat. I missed it because I
stopped reading after I found the first one
that day.

Very strange, but I'll still cancel my
auctions, since I don't want a hassle. And
if you check the submit link that was posted
it contradicts all those quotes (it states
"you will be charged", not you may be charged)...

Yahoo has never (in 5 years of dealing with
them over various things) been friendly to
me or responsive to concerns, but I stuck
with them. I only used the auctions because
they were free. I refuse to now pay them to
be treated like ****!

I just realized that I accidently cut out
a line before posting my first follow-up in
this thread.

I want to make it clear that Yahoo DID change
the submission form sometime after 8am EST
to reflect that charges would be incurred
for auto re-submit even though they had
stated several times (in various places)
that this would not be the case.

I re-submitted auctions the morning of 01/08
up until that time and it did NOT state that,
not once! That is the 'ex post facto'
action I was referring to. Darn cut&paste!

I've given up on yahoo - the volume of sales I"ve had there in the past year isn't worth the 20 cents to list anything..

what other places are people moving too that still provide free auction listings?

I wouldn't take any chances with the relists. I do have a few auctions up but I wouldn't relist them. YaWho told us that the credit card verification would help with deadbeat bidders. I didn't see a substantial change in deadbeat bidders (still had the same number per month) but I did see a very substantial decrease in the amount of new buyers. And a higher increase in people using the question section requesting that I contact them. And very many successful sales on the side. I have heard statements from Yahoo to both sides of the coin and would be VERY CAREFUL about relisting after the 10th.

katiyana: I have listed a few auctions on AuXpal and with 4 items up after 2 days I got one bid. I have listed a few more items and am hopeful. I have also listed on Pootah. However, that is a small personal auction site and they are having trouble working out bugs with all the traffic. They have great customer service and seem to want to work with the sellers.

Interesting...

I just checked out that link and it appears they removed the line about charging for re-lists. But...the first line of the paragraph above the submit button says:

"Yahoo! Auctions is a free service provided to users of Yahoo!, "

Rebel I would presume it would be Pacific Time.

Regarding charging for auto-submits, I went to the page, and for safety had the whole page forwarded to myself so I'd have it in the future incase they decide to change it again,...it says:

"What happens to items I currently have on auto-relist? Will I get billed automatically?"

No, you will not be charged for auto-relisted items if the original item was submitted before January 10.

I had a bunch of stuff go back up tonight, and so far, no charges. Of course, it would be nice if one of my e-mails to Yahoo support would answer the question for me.

If worse comes to worse, and they charge a credit card, you can refute the charges. Just be sure to file a complaint with your State's Attorney and Yahoo's (California?) to really piss them off at Yahoo.

that's what they said folks......SO IF YOU LISTED EARLIER AND HAVE 3 X RELISTING YOU SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED FEES.....ONLY THING I FOUND IS THAT ANYTHING LISTED ON 1/8 AND 1/9 DIDN'T HAVE RELIST OPTION AS THE # WAS NOT REDUCED FROM ALLOCATION......
