I just received an Yahoo e-mail with a auction question. It wasn't a question at all - it was spam advertising for two other auction sites.

My reaction: I will never list on those sites.

Typical auction scam but what is worse than that is when thwese new auction sites owners post randomly to forums like this and make believe they are a 20yr old female.
Praising the site as if they are really a user. terrible and it still happens

I can't imagine a "spammer" combining two advertisements in a single "spam".

Are you sure its not a buyer that would like to purchase some of your items at someplace other than Yahoo!Auctions for the principle of the thing.

The question:

Did you know that hundreds of listers from this site are going to xxxxx to list I have and have made the same kind of sells as I did here. Best part its free and They have emailed me to say that it will always be free. Also another up and coming site is xxxxx with this and other great perks? email me if you need more info.

I have "xxxx"'d out the names of the sites because I don't want to give them ANY free publicity and because there is a small chance that the owners aren't behind the spam.

actually, i thought it might help us not go to those sites if they have to use yahoo to spam people.

Irene, thanks. Doesn't sound like its those auction sites themselves behind the question ... err ... spam.

Guess it was just your day to get one of those strange folks clicking on your auctions.

But, hey, you did get a pageview. And Yahoo!Inc. got a fraction of a penny if there was a banner other-than-their-own on the page.

No - the auction question was right in the e-mail from Yahoo. I didn't go to the Yahoo site to read it.

Irene

I know what they are doing is wrong, however, how can we know to avoid these sites if you don't tell us what they are?

I would like to know. Thanks,

I got an email from Dutchbid the other day

Entitled "Homework project"

In the email it asked all registered sellers to email friends, former customers etc etc to come back to dutch bid and bring in sellers and bidders.

This was from their company not an individual seller.

I didnt exactly appreciate but some poeple are passionate about their little community.

The question in your auction item could also be a disgruntled seller using in auction listings to get sellers to go to other sites.

And in a way.....you are all doing the exact same thing here discussing what sites to go to and abandon Yahoo.........

Just some people are using a direct approach. And letting non AW sellers know some of their options.

Anyone who rants in AW is preaching to the chior.......lol who's gonna listen to you when we all came here with the same idea already.
