Reality: If a seller wants to list an auction site with listing fees, they prefer eBay which has demonstrated an ability to provide traffic, while Yahoo!Auctions has not.

Fantasy:

nutra_2000 asks: How LONG does Yahoo expect it to take to attract Great Sellers and Great Bidders?
y_auctions_guest: We already have them and we'll continue to bring in more sellers throughout our network...
y_auctions_guest: and find ways to improve sell through and bring new bidders.

Isn't this what they've been doing for the last 3 years? Wow, I can't wait for another 3 years of them trying to drive traffic =)

I have a question... what is the purpose of this thread? We all know that the number of listings will drop drastically over the next month or so. Even Yahoo! themselves stated that the whole point of the listing fees was to get rid of the many unrealistically priced 'auctions'. So, this constant decline in listings is neither surprising nor troubling to anyone as far as I can tell.

This is not meant to be antagonistic or sarcastic... I am just curious as to what kind of value people are getting out of monitoring the drop in listings hour by hour.

I can see this information being useful if you also track bidding activity and percentage of items sold. That would give you some measure of the listing fee's effect on the site, but I'm not sure how accurately that can be measured on Yahoo! due to the prevalence of '1st Bid Wins' auctions.

How does Yahoo (or even you) know how many items are "unrealistically priced auctions" --- it's YaGREEDS lack of traffic- nothing wrong with the items (or they wouldn't sell for MUCH more when I list them on eGREED after trying them on Yahoo first)

I'm not sure how accurately that can be measured on Yahoo! due to the prevalence of '1st Bid Wins' auctions.

"first bid wins" is NOT an auction- it's a classified ad.

Just because you don't get the purpose of the thread doesn't mean that others have that problem.

It's too bad that YaGREED thinks my $100. - $1,500. radios are too "junky" for their site.

I think this thread is just to follow what happens on YAHOO because we are interested in YAHOO...and we're bored out of our skulls!

Most of us are tied to the computer a LOT!! Because of the jobs we have - listing, buying, reviewing our ads & others (to see if there are any portions of our ads we need to change or ideas we can steal to make our ads better), we look upon most anything different as "exciting".

Watching the numbers go down in our favorite catagories in YAHOO is definitely different - we watched them go up for so long.

I agree that just because the numbers are going down is not necessarily bad. But, at what point does it get bad? Is there a magic number that makes the site no longer attractive to buyers because there are too few items to choose from? Or, will the site become more desirable because items that are misplaced - i.e. Antiques, Micellaneous, Other, is full of recent imports (new pins, statues, etc.) that folks looking for antiques HATE to plow thru to find a real older item (not necessarily an antique even, but just an older appearing item).

I think this is a neat thread!

Thanks!!

pegasus777-

Why do you assume that Yahoo! thinks your $1500 radios are 'junky'? Maybe after all the unrealistically priced auctions are removed by the listing fees there will be more bidders able to find your radios and they'll sell for more.

I know this is not true for everyone, but the reason I have never bought on Yahoo! Auctions is that when I go to look for something I have to wade through thousands of 'auctions' with starting bids so high that they would have no chance of selling anywhere (eBay, Amazon, etc.) I think that more bidders will come to Yahoo! Auctions in the coming weeks once they don't have to look through 100 listings to find 5 that are priced to sell. Again, I want to reiterate that this is my opinion, I may be wrong... we'll find out in a month.

Also, I did not say that this thread does not have value, I said I didn't see it. Clearly, it does have value to the many people who spend the time tracking and posting the listing numbers. I was asking if some of those people could tell me what they get out of following the listings so closely, because I'm curious, not because I think they're wrong.

So please help me with my 'problem' and enlighten me.
