Seems like there is some deadly disease running through the auction sites. Just got this message from Amazon, who is already almost dead, and now they say they are going to FORCE users to use they pay system, and starting January 17 they will start charging completion fees (i.e.) FVF!

As dead as Amazon already is can you believe this?

Dear Amazon.com Auction Seller,

Thank you for participating in Amazon.com Auctions. There are some
important changes we're about to roll out that will improve Auctions
for both you and your buyers. These improvements will be implemented
in the coming weeks, and we want to let you know in advance. We will
contact you again with firm dates prior to implementation.

In this message:

* Important Amazon.com Payments information
* Global seller preferences
* Completion fees

1. Important Amazon.com Payments Information

Buyers have shown that they overwhelmingly prefer using Amazon.com
Payments. To accommodate your buyers and simplify your selling
experience, we will be requiring all merchants to register for
Amazon.com Payments. This service makes it easier for buyers to
purchase your sold auction listings and for you to collect their
payments. Most of the items currently available on Amazon.com
Auctions are already "Amazon.com Payments enabled. "Click below for
all the relevant details pertaining to Amazon.com Payments:

http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/subst/selling/payments-start.html/

Or register for your Payments Account today (if you're not already
Amazon.com Payments enabled):

http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/easypay-login/

Here are several very important things to note:

a) In order to be eligible for Amazon.com Payments, you must have
access to a U.S. address and a U.S. bank account.

b) You will still be able to accept alternative payment methods,
such as credit card through a merchant account, check, money
order, and escrow.

c) Because Amazon.com Payments is limited to $2,500 per transaction,
items you sell above that amount will require an alternate
payment method. All items sold below that amount will be
available to buyers via Amazon.com Payments (as well as other
payment methods you choose to accept).

2. Global seller preferences

Changes to seller preferences, like your Customer Service Policy or
shipping ZIP code, will continue to apply only to subsequent Auction
listings, and will not change existing listings. However, changes
will apply to all existing and subsequent zShops listings.

3. Completion fees

As a user of Amazon.com Payments, you may have noticed that you're
still not paying closing fees on your winning auctions. While the
special promotion waiving closing fees for auction items purchased
with Amazon.com Payments officially expired on January 1, 2001,
we've extended the promotion until January 17, 2001.

Closing fees are only assessed if an auction attracts a winning
bidder. The fee is based on the amount of the winning bid as listed
below.

* $0.01 to $25.00 the closing fee is 5%
* $25.01 to $1,000 the closing fee is $1.25 +2.5% of any amount
over $25.00
* $1,000.01 and up the closing fee is $25.63 + 1.25% of any amount
over $1,000

For a complete review of all auction fees, please visit:

We welcome your feedback on these and other issues. Inquiries and
suggestions may be sent to [email protected]. Thank you
for your continued support. We look forward to working more with
you in 2001.

So that officially and effectively bans foreign sellers from amazon.com auctions.

If all sellers have to have amazon.com payments and you have to have a US bank account and address...........then non americans will be refused .........

*waves to the canadians* buh-bye!!!

Although I see that policy short lived once the canadians speak up.......there aren't enough brits to make a big stink about it or other nationalities.

Navigating their site is just too damn confusing so I think I am bored one day and will go to list some stuff . Then I get annoyed and leave promptly. I do this every 3 months or so and end up not listing anything.

It will be interesting to go take a peak in the AW amazon forum so see them rant and rave lol

Egreed sits there popping the champaign cork happily watching their 2 biggest competitors actually digging their own graves and jumping in.

Will this madness ever end?

So much for the global market. I will be boycotting Amazon.

The irony is that on-line auctions is just now really getting noticed here in Canada by the ordinary person on the street. In the last months two different people have casually asked me if I'd ever heard of eBay. No one had ever mentioned eBay to me before that.

its become pretty obvious that ebays two biggest competitors would rather shoot each other in the foot then try and become number one. there are alternatives, and we must let it be known that we won't take this anymore. everyone will have different sites that they will now mingle to. i for one will be using lowestbids.com primarily. others will use other sites. but whatever the decision, our voices must be heard loud and clear.
