Yeah, but it's just the "junk" items that are falling off! hahahahaha I think the Yahoo staff should read that book about the 7th Cavalry called "Save the Last Bullet for Yourself."

well our stuff is well worth our opening bids and not get rich overnight stuff and we are pulling out of yahoo for good.it took us over a year to accumilate a little over 100 feedbacks.heck i get that many in 1 month at ebay.anyway these numbers show yahoo cant and will not survive in the auction business they have ticked to many people off.we stopped our auto relists and are just letting the few left run their course and end.in the last couple months we were just starting to make enough money to make it worth while to list at yahoo.but with all the sellers numbers dropping like a rock the bidders will soon follow.

Not being a big time seller, the introduction of fees by Yahoo really has no effect on me. I can, however, certainly understand the uproar and I support your efforts in getting your thoughts out on this.
But, I fail to see the point of dimview's constant update threads about listing numbers. Are these designed to further antagonize the masses?
From reading these forums, I get the impression that Yahoo is well aware of the fact that their listings will initially take a nose dive. And, in spite of what some people have said, I still cannot believe that the owners are intentionally trying to kill their own business.
If YOU feel that Yahoo has done a number on you and if you want to express your thoughts, simply stop listing there ...

I can give you some Idea of how far yahoo has dropped.
AUXpal has been up and running near 90days maybe a bit less and at this point some catagories have 90% or more listed then yahoo
does now in some catagories they have 90% more then yahoo ever had listed.
check out beanies babies and stuffed toys, tradeing cards and books .

ill give auxpal some credit. they have a lot of listings and a lot of good items. but there aren't any bids on anything or at least what i looked at and i looked at quite a few different categories.

RB - Those of us who helped Yahoo grow are a little offended by their actions (the methodology) and intend to make some noise before we go.

I started listing a variety of stuff on several different auction sites last weekend. I listed some stuff on AuXpal that had been sitting on Yahoo and bids were placed within hours of posting. I have had one completed sale and it was a great experience.
Amen to the above statement about our hard work. When I started listing on Yahoo there wasn't a whole lot going on. I intend to yell and scream and let them know I am not happy about anything. I am sure they don't care but I will feel better. Then I am going to go list a whole bunch more of those 1000 "junk" auctions on AuXpal.

RG - I don't think that's the answer either
It seems to me that several people are so hurt by what Yahoo has done that it has screwed up their logic process. I am simply saying that yelling at Yahoo on this forum will have zero effect on how Yahoo runs their site. The people at Yahoo who make these decisions don't read these threads, so you anger is being misdirected.
It probably makes you feel better to 'get it out' here (I know this from personal experience!), but if you are REALLY trying to make it better, you have to hit them where it hurts.
Stop listing and stop buying at Yahoo.
Write real letters (using a piece of paper, a pen, and a stamp) to the Yahoo yahoos, and express your thoughts.

AUxpal does have bidding going on, over the weeks I have never seen the site have less then 20 to 50 bids daily.
Bidding is getting harder to see due to there new take it now feature people bid once and the item is sold and vanishies from the listings.
Most of the bidding I have found is in the beanie babies and stuffed animals area music video games and books many of the other catagories are so empty if your not doing a search for them you can easily miss them just looking in the catagories. http://www.Dman-N-Company.com

RB - That may or may not be so. Yelling at eBay a few years ago on that section produced world-wide news, phone calls from eBay administrators asking how they could rectify things, and site improvements.
If Yahoo doesn't listen, it's their loss...really.
You can bet they are reading what's here.
There's no doubt about that. If they are locked into self-destruct mode, visiting them in person and buying them lunch wouldn't get through.
Their stock is in a desperate situation, but that is the fault of a poor business plan upfront. They wanted to get rich on pure intangibles. Now the stock market is making them play their hand and prove their real worth, and there's not a high card in it, only a few jokers.

This AM, Antiques, Art, & Collectibles > Advertising > Beverage Related > Soda > Coca-Cola; 6535 (209 with bids)
This catagory contained 7781 (219 with bids) items back on the 10th.
I am confused about the rate of items with bids... looks to me like the ratio of items with bids. 1246 fewer items, only 10 fewer bids?
Could Yahoo be correct - less items, but more quality items and more bidding?
posted on January 14, 2001 09:44:08 AM new
Yeah, and if the site is reduced to selling ten Rolls Royces and they get ten bids, I guess they will have succeeded...
posted on January 14, 2001 09:46:03 AM new
i dont think its more bidding but less items to sell giving the impression that there is more bidding. or a better ratio of items with bids on them versus items with no bids.

Rustybore: You also have to take the change in listing order into consideration. Bidders are now seeing items that used to remain relegated far down in the listing order.

I'm am/was seller and buyer on Yahoo. Fortunately, I buy from only a handfull of people and they have agreed to deal "off-line" from this point on.

Don't worry Rustybore - buyers are also aware that the listings are going. If they want an item they are bidding now before it's gone forever.

I Dont think this shows yahoo is right just because listings drop and bidding stays the same there is no more quality listed on yahoo then there was before the 10th.
99.9% the same items are there now as before just relisted before they had to pay to list.
I Relisted the same coke memorablia on the 9th that was list in the past just because yahoo charges does this make my stuff higher quality.
Like I said before this new charge of yahoo will have a good and a bad side the good side is as the listing sink lower bidding will incress for whats left at least in the short term.
The bad side as listings end with out bids most will not be relisted.
Face it for each sale that ends with a bid the seller has an insentive to pay list one more item. as items end with out bids they lose the insentive it all works the same on ebay.
When I sell 5 or 10 item I am all up and I list 10 more items if 10 items end with out bids I list far less if any thing the rest of that week.
Yahoo right now has a problem there bidding is not droping off people ar still selling there 40% of the drop in listings is items that closed with a winner either one bid wins or auction closed with a high winning bidder.
yet each day we see lower listing number not one catagory shows incress there is less then 2% new listings even with there auto relisting feature.
At this rate yahoo will be down to about 300 to 600 thousand open auctions in 10 or 20 weeks.
Im looking at a new hardly heard of auction site right now epier.com so far right now as I can see they have more then a few items filling in near every catagory, Reporting more then a million hits to there web site a month right now and a listing rate and new registered user rate of of well over 10% for the last month they have buyers items are getting bids.
No listing fees no FVF And they have now got 4 or 5 different banners there users can use to advertize this auction site I think this site is about to become highly visable well known name on the web.
They are welcomeing Yahoo sellers there many are already makeing them selves known there.
Talk about a million auction march I am already seeing more then a million yahoo auctions that have marched poping up on mainly three differnet site lycos Auxpal and epier.
I dont think Ebay will see a big difference in there listing since I believe that near 50% of people selling on yahoo already sold on ebay sellers will just continues list on ebay as they always have.

Dman, for what its worth, I had a sale on epier just this AM. I have listed there since july, and have sold a few dozen items. I like the place and think it has some potential... there are some usablilty issues with the site, but I suspect they will get better over time.
posted on January 14, 2001 11:22:17 AM new
Yeah I have seen you listing there.
All these web sites have there problems for sure even the three "big auction sites" so this shouldnt be a big concern.
What really suprised me about this site is that near every catagory has items listed and this is what will draw the bids more then anything else if they cant find what they want buyers wont bid.
