does anyone know if this is legit? I am trying to help someone out who got burned on an auction. Thought the items that were purchased were new and they were used, worn, stained etc. auction ended months ago. This person left a neg feedback for the seller stating the facts and of course the seller stated that it was all a lie. Now, months later an email arrived from "FraudWatch Auction" <[email protected]> Stating that the seller is a fraud and being investigated This was a Yahoo auction with the seller living in Europe. To summarized, the email it says that this person is a fraud who pad's the auctions with someone elses id, pads the shipping costs and has created bogus feedback for herself. It also says that this person is under investigation by our government's internet fraud unit and the seller's country's investigative unit. Bottom line is this question. Is there really such thing as FraudWatch Auction on Lycos and why would they be bothering with Yahoo auctions.
I am trying to help a friend who is very new in dealing with auctions. ANY info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have also posted this same info under auction fraud on AW because I really would need some help on this and want to make sure someone sees this. thanks so much

I've never heard of it. That does sound a bit suspicous how they would investigate a Yahoo auction. Have you asked Yahoo if they approve of this Auction Fraud Watch? This may be the first they know of it too.

In any case, I hope your "friend" didn't loose too much money!

ALOT of money! GEEZ, I just checked the seller's ratings and they are all over the board. Mostly negative. It actually sounds reasonable but why is auction fraud watch sending emails from lycos? I dont know where to go with this/!!

It may take a few days to get a reply, but I would email lycos and cc Yahoo support asking them to verify this.

If it's legit, you can sleep a bit easier. If it's not legit, you can feel good that you did your part in cracking down on internet fraud.

It may be a bit cliché, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Could it be related to this organization?

http://www.fraud.org/internet/intinfo.htm

However, I am suspicious of the lycos e-mail address. I would have thought a fraud investigation organization would have its own domain.
