What's funny is that YahWho had want ads posted advertising for NEW employees experienced in various category areas to take newly-created positions on their "new, improved, quality" Auction. I can't find those ads now, so they either filled the positions or they DROPPED them for lack of funds and/or need. We all keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, for YaWho to revise the fees or SOMETHING, and it just....isn't....happening. It's time to move on, give it up, re-group and head for drier land. I should say I wish them well, but the words just can't make it out of my mouth. So I wish them what they deserve, and I hope those kids can find new jobs soon. Sad, sad, sad.
warr	posted on February 4, 2001 01:29:06 PM new It looks to me as the auto-relsit every two days folks with high pricesare disappearing! I think that is GREAT! These folks have migrated to other sites I have been following for the past couple years and are now doing the same thing on those sites! 1)Start Price-HIGH or above RETAIL! 2)With a RESERVE! 3)Place in AUCTION ADDS Links to there WEB PAGES where they really sell their merchandise! FVF only charged on these sites, since listing is free these sellers incur no fees! Only one relist allowed, so you use an Excell spreadsheet and load up every sixth day! If by miracle an item sells and you do not have a duplicate all you do is remove it from the spread sheet! These sites are more doomed then YAHOO, which at least has many other venues to offer for advertisement and a customer clientele on them! Since I specifically deal with antiques and collectibles, I do not believe that BUYERS are going to keep going back to sites to look at the same listing order over and over indefinitely! My opinion only and it is like behinds we all got one!
TedNancy	posted on February 4, 2001 01:34:56 PM new There's still plenty of Auctions related openings available in Yahoo!'s job listings: http://join.yahoo.com/findjobs.html (check out the ad on the right) Why don't all of you go over and apply, now that your auction 'businesses' are gone you'll need a new source of nickels and dimes. I'm sure that with your 'expertise' they could turn this thing around in a heartbeat. I saw a listing for a customer care rep, wouldn't all of you love to have that job and be able to write a 'personal' email response to every complaint from the millions of Yahoo! Auctions users. Oh wait, I forgot, you're too busy WHINING about the decline of the online knick knack market to actually DO anything about it, my bad.

outoftheblue	posted on February 4, 2001 03:18:37 PM new warr I don't know what categories you are looking at but those retail ads are still there. I see dozens of them still happily listing away. They only run 10-15 auctions at a time (to keep the cost down) and include links to their web sites. This is extremely cheap advertising so why would they go elsewhere? Yahoo still has more traffic then a lot of other sites. It's my oppinion that these people are the ones that advocated the listing fees to kill off the competition and get more exposure. warr	posted on February 4, 2001 04:56:18 PM new outoftheblue I agree they are still here, but they are no longer listing 300 or 1000 or more adds that will not sell and clutter the site and give you 60 plus pages of only their items with shotgun effects from the rest of the sellers!!! To list 100 items now would cost them $20 and to relist for a week would be $60! One month would be about $240 with no sales! It now almost costs them $1 an item to run the way they had been previously for FREE! If the items normally sell for $2 to $3 and they are listing for $4 to $5 it is no longer cost effective for them to load up a site with higher prices then retail or book to gain the advertisement! I would rather compete against a multitude of sellers then against a few who abuse a free system! At least now one person with ten ID's may only have 15 auctions, instead of 15,000! It does cost Yahoo as well as any other site amd FVF will not correct the problem!! I believe YAHOO will stay in the running and really hope they do not sell out to E-BAY! We need competion in the on line auction community or all of us small folks are done for!

genxmike	posted on February 4, 2001 09:23:42 PM new I've taken a look at the listings in my category and estimate a drop of 45% between now and the end of Thursday. That's assuming 25% of the auctions that end are replaced (which may be a pretty big assumption). Using TAG's numbers, that gives us a Yahoo total of around 475,000 listings at which point there should be some temporary stability (until the 14 day listings scroll off, credits run out or people give up) D-Day is approaching quickly!

bearmom	posted on February 5, 2001 03:51:43 AM new If you look more carefully, even these counts are inflated. I've discovered that some items in the categories I check are listed 3-4 times. (same item, not multiple copies) If you subtract the 'antique' rattle that is listed 4 times, the toy car that is listed 5 times, the numbers are really lower. Looks like Yahoo is padding the listings to make them look better!

What I've found is that some categories are duplicated with different names leading to the category page. For example Auctions > Automotive > Classic & Collector > Cars You can also get there as Auctions > Automotive > Vehicles > Classic & Collector They're both category #51392. If someone trying to get a Yahoo total item count doesn't realize this they'll end up double counting and getting too high a total. John
bearmom	posted on February 5, 2001 02:34:37 PM new That's exactly what's going on. There is a set of vintage celluloid rattles that are listed 4 times-the exact same picture, description, seller. Now, that seller may have 4 identical sets of rattles, but he didn't have them a week ago-only one! There are several other examples just like that. It looks like Yahoo is listing items more than once just to keep the count up. You have to be familiar with that category and watch it carefully to catch the discrepancy. Of course, when the whole category is down to 35 listings, it's a lot more noticeable!
