I was listening to the business news this morning and there is talking of E-bay buying Yahoo, the two merging etc. . . I hope not because I sell quite a bit on Yahoo (I also sell a lot on Ebay) but I sell most of my ten dollars and under items on Yahoo because there is no fee. I even sell some of my bigger tag items on Yahoo that there is an average that you will get for them and I know that there is likely not to be a bidding war on E-bay. They are two different kind of markets and I do well on both if E-bay gets their hands on Yahoo. The Yahoo auctions will just be another Ebay auction and you know the fee listings will be out the door just when traffic and all that was starting to be built up on Yahoo . . . keeping my fingers crossed that it is just an ugly rumor . . . I love Ebay I love Yahoo but NOT together. . .

"PALO ALTO, Calif. (Reuters) - Yahoo Inc. and eBay Inc., two of the most popular consumer sites on the Internet, are in talks to consider a possible alliance or merger, the cable network CNBC reported on Tuesday, citing people close to the discussions."

The merger fell through today. So no big deal. Every so often you hear companies talking about mergers & all & that won't change. This one fell through pretty quick. No details but one can always speculate.

Yahoo is trying to take over Ebay not Ebay trying to take over yahoo. Both have everything to gain and every thing to lose. Ebay would get a great portal if they were the ones taking over Yahoo and if Yahoo takes over E-bay they get a high market auction site. It seems from what I have read the talks have stopped for now but Yahoo is looking to take over or merge with some major tech companies to be able to compete with the AOl Time Warner Merger. You know here is America bigger is suppose to be better. They say it is over I am not sure it is . . . in fact I think it is only begining that is why I spread my eggs around to the different auctions sites.
Here are some things take of what I have been reading from AP "Shares of eBay shot higher on Tuesday night after CNBC said the pioneer and leader of the online auction business has discussed a partnership that could lead to a takeover by Yahoo! However, eBay's stock pulled back sharply today.
The report, which cited people familiar with the situation, said no transaction was imminent and that talks could fall apart over determining an appropriate value for San Jose-based eBay
This morning, USA Today reported that those talks had in fact ended as a result of a disagreement over that issue.
Hmmm . . . Interesting . . . I wonder a few years from now where this will all settle. . .

The merger may eventually happen. That would be unfortunate in the sense that Yahoo has a higher deadbeat crowd and prank bidding crowd. Other than that maybe if the two could manage to combine all their good features it'd make up for some of the headaches we'd have to endure.

"IF" eBay and Yahoo did a merger, unfortunately I doubt things would remain the same - eBay would quickly start making changes - eBay is ALWAYS making changes regardless if they are needed - they don't call it GreedBay for nothing.
Yahoo is just great the way it is and I'd prefer NOT to see a merger...all I can see is the eBay Idiots ruining the best FREE auction available. We don't get that many deadbeats on Yahoo, and do a great deal of business. Yes, we use eBay too, but only on high end items....because of eBay's greed, the reserve penalty, etc., etc., we use Yahoo for most items and do great.
For the money we make, and the fee's we save, I can deal with a few deadbeats!

I sell on Yahoo! and buy on eBay. I don't think ANY users, from eBay or Yahoo, merge. I can't see any +'s coming out from the merge at all, except for eBay to eliminate its competition, and we don't know where that could go...I have heard talks of this since November last year. I think it is inevitable that as eBay continues to grow it will buy out other companies, but I don't think it will buy out Yahoo!, at least for a while.

I wonder if all them talks simply had to do with "YES" - in which Yahoo! will have a buncha corporate partners. I started another messagethread with the applicable news article.
Details expected to be announced tomorrow, Monday...
