Note the cut and paste from the new TOS, if you don't list within 3 months, you are booted!Yahoo!'s Right To Terminate.

Yahoo!, in its sole discretion, may terminate any auction or your Yahoo! ID immediately and without notice if (a) Yahoo! believes that you have acted inconsistently with the spirit or the letter of the Yahoo! Terms of Service, Yahoo! Auctions Additional Terms or the Yahoo! Auctions Guidelines, or (b) Yahoo! believes you have violated or tried to violate the rights of others. Your membership may be terminated if you do not use this service at least one time during a reasonable period of time (as determined by us) which shall not be less than three months. Please help us keep Yahoo! Auctions an enjoyable and positive experience. If you see a listing that violates our rules, please let us know by contacting us.

Actually it says "may be terminated." I normally go six months without listing on Yahoo, then go list crazy for a month. But I'm not going to sweat it if they might cancel my user id. Actually I'm planning to cancel it on my own if I don't see Yahoo serving my purposes anymore.

Maybe I'm missing something or taking this out of context. This states "if you do not use the service". Are they refering to all of their services or just the auction service? I log in to Yahoo Clubs on a regular basis. Or you could check your Yahoo email. Or you can update your Geocities webpage. Actually, it doesn't say if you do not list, so even if they are refering to just the auction service you can log in and buy something or maybe just log in. Whatever...If they don't adjust their listing fees, its academic to me.

Big "who cares?" from me, unless this includes cancelling my PayDirect account. I do have buyers use that from time to time.

There are TWO terms of service.

One for Yahoo! itself

http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/

The other for Yahoo!Auctions:

http://auctions.yahoo.com/phtml/auc/us/legal/additionaltos.html

which does in fact state that if you do not use Yahoo!Auctions in a period of time (not less than three months) your Yahoo! userID will be terminated, so it does appear that those who fail to buy or sell an item will have their Yahoo! userID terminated and the effect will be network-wide.

fixed URL.

OK, Obviously someone has picked up on this clause, which has always been there, and decided what it means.
This, like all Yahoo TOS is obvioulsy open to interpretation. But I am pretty sure that it does not mean you have to list an auction, or even win an auction.
If you are worried, you can always just go in and ask their CS a question every couple of months. That will put activity on your account without really bothering a real person at Yahoo.
And to finally put all fears and apprehensions to rest, it doe not matter what the individual clauses in TOS says. Yahoo has the right to terminate at anytime for any, or NO* reason. That is in their TOS, and I guess there is not really much more than that to say.

*=This is my interpretation of "their sole discretion", it does not actually say "no" reason in their TOS, but if they don't have to tell you the reason, what is the difference.

"Your membership may be terminated if you do not use this service at least one time during a reasonable period of time (as determined by us) which shall not be less than three months."

Where does it state you have to list an item? No where, that's where. People are looking for something, where there is nothing. Talk about paranoid. This, or something similar, has always been posted.

The same holds true for e-mail accounts. If you don't use them within a reasonable amount of time, they automatically get deleted. This is nothing new. Most sites have a way to delete unused accounts.

Just log-in once in a while is all that's required to maintain presents on any site. Take a break, and relax. Would help if people would have read when they signed up, instead of srutinizing text now.

Once a seller has signed up for Yahoo!Auctions, the cost of making sure you have access to Yahoo! and its other services, particularly Yahoo!PayDirect, is just 80 cents a year. One legitimate listing every quarter that includes a pointer to your "storefront".

Yeah! I've been trying to figure out how to cancel my Yahoo ID. Now I don't have to worry they will do it for me.

For me it is a concern only because I use my rating there as a reference when conducting new business transactions whether on Beckett, auctions or AOL groups. I think that is where it will hurt some other sellers to lose their account. I use feedback site to put a link to my feedback on all my auctions on Bidville.

Gina~

[snip]
You may request deletion of your Yahoo! account by sending an email to [email protected].

If you ask Yahoo! to delete your Yahoo! account, in most cases your account will be deactivated and then deleted from our user registration database in approximately 90 days. This delay is necessary to discourage users from engaging in fraudulent activity.
Please note that any information that we have copied may remain in back-up storage for some period of time after your deletion request. This may be the case even though no information about your account remains in our active user databases.

Or, list one item to run only a day.

Or, place one low bid on an item early that you know is very popular. If, by accident, you win, then enjoy the bargain.

I currently have 3 items listed at Yahoo. 2 of the items have a bidder with 0 (not new) as high bidder. I'm trying to decide if I want to cancel them. Still the same old Yahoo, but with new rules that punish the buyer even more than the old rules.
