Timothy Koogle, in 1999:

Koogle also said it could start charging a fee for its auctions, something eBay has had success with. Yahoo auctions are nearing critical mass with 900,000 listings. Koogle said moves to grab more of the transactional pie are under review. "We are on the path to flipping that switch," said Koogle.

Yahoo!Auctions, in 2001:

We've introduced listing fees to improve the quality of our site.

No URL, no longer posted on top page of Yahoo!Auctions.

Now that the listings at Yahoo!Auctions have declined from well over two million last month to under 250,000 today, and well below the "critical mass" of 900,000 mentioned by Koogle, has Yahoo!Auctions managed itself into just another wannabe auction site?

For all the good it does, I think Yahoo's major problem was a total lack of understanding the difference between Yahoo Auctions and eBay Auctions; and a failure to listen to their auction users (i.e.) that sellers were willing to pay a FVF, but not a listing fee, since items most often have to be listed and relisted on Yahoo to sell, whereas eBay has a much higher sell through. Lack of understanding their own business, I believe will ultimately be their demise.....coupled with too much pride to admit a mistake, and correct it before total burn out.

Just my opinion.

The main man at YaWho? auctions until 6 months ago was TC and I know he read this auction board regularly. He solicited my opinions often but what frustrated me was he NEVER acted favorably on anything I suggested.

As for improving the sell through, when I had 2000 listings before FeeDay I averaged 15 sales per day. It kept up for awhile but recently with my listings numbering about 500 you would expect about 4, or with improved sellthrough, more than that. So on Feb. 11 I sold 4, Feb. 12 I sold 5, Feb 13 I sold 1, Feb. 14 I sold 0 and today so far I've sold 0. Looks likew they buyers are losing interest as predicted by others.
