Had a buyer on Yahoo buy 5 proof limited edition silver coins...... and wants them shipped to him BEFORE he pays for them.
It gets better- he wants them shipped to China !!!! ROFLMAO !!!
Offered him credit card payment so he would have recourse if I didn't ship- still refused to honor his bid !!!
Glad there are no FV fees on YaHoo- at least that is one hassle I don't have to go through.

Must be a cultural gap ... maybe people in China trust each other?
Nah

I dont think so! I have sold alot to people on that side of the world and have NEVER encounter that before! If they are computer savy and can type out an email in English, chances are, they know what they are doing. Thank goodness you were smart enough not to get conn'ed. Keep us informed if anything else transpires with this bidder!

I sure wouldn't send the stuff. Over the course of 2 years I think I have had 5 people request that I ship before or at the same time as they send payment. Funny thing -- all 5 of them were deadbeats. Never did receive money. Glad I never shipped the stuff. It amazes me what people will try.

I even offered for him to pay for one coin at a time and I would ship one coin at a time, so he wouldn't be at risk for the whole amount should I be a crook. He still wouldn't transact.
I finally told him to forget it and not to bid on any of my auctions in the future - and blasted him on feedback.
I can understand being cautious, but with a credit card, you don't have to be sooooo cautious.

I have done it on occassion, without being asked. BUT only with someone that I have done a lot of previous business with and trusted very well.

If I-Escrow accepts credit cards issued in China, he could have paid you through them. You would get paid as soon as he receives and approves the merchandise, and they hold his payment for you until the deal is done, at which time they send you a check.
It's more hassle for the seller and more expense for the buyer (if you make him pay the fees), but works well when the buyer is afraid of being burned.

GRANEE;
I always figured that the problem with the escrow services is they place ALL of the burden on the seller, along with ALL of the risk. Buyers can pull any story they want to
out of a hat from "I never got it" to simply "I don't approve it". THis could be caused by any number of factors including 'buyer's remorse' or the snide comment of a jealous neighbor.
There is still nothing that can take the place of a good forthright seller interested in the good name of his/her business. If a seller can take the time to do the work and build a reputation and feedback, Then some newbie with '0' feedback should be expected to read an auction and know what "Seller ships on payment" means.
No, I don't think that an escrow service is the answer here. I, as a seller would not even use one unless we were talking items worth thousands of dollars and then probably only with a buyer who had a good feedback history. JMHO.

A credit card and shipping receipt is the sure way to go, but when I told him he could chargeback the credit card charge if he didn't receive the items, which I was sending insured, he said it was very hard to chargeback in China.
In any event, it is a NPB situation.

UPDATE: This bidder now wants to pay for one of the five coins first to see if I will ship it to him in China, you know, to make sure I'm on the level.
Heck I'll do that, I'm easy to get along with and fair.
But there is one problem- he only wants to pay 5 cents- yes that's right- a nickel- to ship the item air insured to China !! Each coin is $59.95 and he said he will send $60 for one of the coins !!!
I have been activly listing on YaHoo for a few weeks, have 14 glowing positives, and now this !
Am I lucky or what ??

Just forget this loser! If you go along with his game, you will be sorry! He is playing games with you. You do not have to work with him on this. If he doesn't understand how the English Auction works, then he shouldn't bid. Drop him, like a HOT POTATO!
