First number, in bold, is "listing fees day" 10-Jan-2001 10:00 AM ET; second is 24-Mar-2001 at 9:30 AM ET.
Yahoo!Auctions continues to decline at some two to three percent each week. I'd like to propose that we begin posting the "count" on a weekly basis and focus some attention on the listings of the alternative auction sites.

again, I fail to see any point to this. Like twelvepole said, bidders are having easier time finding things, and sales are up! I think another seller, RoyRogers even mentioned this! I noticed we are having new posters show up each week, telling us of their success stories! SO time to wake up and realize things are getting better, NOT for the worse!
Life IS grand!

I think that posting the COUNT is very important because it represents one of the datapoints of what is actually happening at an auction site.
And we wouldn't want a troll to show up posting messages with no basis in reality without a means of refuting them, now would we?

I, for one, am very interested in watching these counts that dimview has been so graciously keeping track of and posting for us. I hope he continues.
If I forgot to thank you dimview, I'm saying it now. THANK YOU!

How many times does one have to be reminded? If you find a message offensive, unuseful, or simply boring, just scroll past it and move on.
As for the grand sell thru on YaWho, I posted 30 items with funny money and sold 1 in the past 2 weeks. If I had used real money to pay listing fees I would be in the red.
Wouldn't we all like to know how many of the listings are done with real money and how many with funny money!
All I can tell you is YaWho could be making $500 a month off me with 5% FV fees and instead they are getting what they deserve: squat.

Dimview I have not said it but thank you for the up todate info on yahoo if it was not for your post I would not even come back to AW yes I have left here also same for the same reason. I wondered what would happen to BooHoo after they commited hair kary. I was one of many that could not stay and pay to relist and relist. I like your idea. I could be wrong but the bid count is falling the last time I checked so how is things picking up. Soomer are later BooHoo has to hit bottom then guess what people there will be no place to go but up or just level out. But I have not heard the THUD yet so the fall continues. I guess these people on your back are the super sellers I heard so much about. Thanks again and have a nice buying/selling day. And yes you will find me at the fast growing auction site on the net Bidville.

I also wish to thank Dimview. Posting the listings all the time is a lot of work and I appreciate that effort and enjoy reading the posts.
I also agree with whoever said if you don't like it, move on!!

I haven't seen any postings from Roy Rodgers in a while. Are you Roy? Because Roy used to post here about how much better Yahoo was and then all of a sudden he was upset because his auctions were cancelled or he was TOSsed, I don't remember which.
Dimview:
Weekly would be fine. You have certainly been helpful.

I am not saying that Yahoo is the greatest. We all know how they have fallen and these number posts were interesting at first. I just don't think these constant reminders serve any useful purpose anymore other than bashing Yahoo when they are already down and out.
Why do you people find these interesting? What purpose do they serve if you have already decided to leave Yahoo?
I have started selling (trying to) on bidville. I listed and relisted many items there that did not get any page views or bids. These are items that sell very quickly on ebay. I know because I do a lot of buying there and the bidding is always fast and furious towards the end.
I can't list on ebay because I don't have (and don't want) a credit card. They will not verify me either because I don't live in the USA.

jugghead -- We are not trying to bash Yahoo while they are down. They are down by their own choosing. We are showing Yahoo that we were right and they were wrong.
Yahoo WAS #2! And they literally threw it away! Many of us worked very VERY hard building Yahoo Auctions up and we were very Proud that we were gaining ground on egreed so fast.
Disgruntled? You better believe it! I'm downright Pissed at Yahoo!
Keep posting those numbers Dimview! Yahoo deserves to SEE what fools they are.

Juggheadd,
Sure, the posting of counts has chronicled the decline, but do you not agree that if by some strange set of circumstances Yahoo!Auctions gets its act together and the count turns around and begins to increase, then the continued posting of counts would also provide a signal to sellers to consider listing some items at that auction site?
posted on March 24, 2001 11:03:59 AM new
Juggheadd,
You don't need a credit card on Yahoo? Have things changed? You used to have to produce a credit card for selling and then they even started on the buyers.
Yes, we are pissed and I might add that they deserve to die this slooooooow death. LOL
I understand! So you have proven that you are right and Yahoo was wrong. I don't think anyone would disagree with you so why not just leave it alone. Take your bow and move on
dimview
I think that the ex-Yahoo people are probably thinking like heygrape. They are pissed off and won't go back no matter what happens.
As far as the numbers why not "compromise" and post them once a week instead of everyday? Maybe Yahoo will get a better idea of their mistake if the number of posts to this forum decrease too
deichen
Crap! I guess it will have to be bidville or garage sales for me now.

I currently have 73 auctions up. I'm still running on my funny money. When my funny money runs out I will take my bow and move on if they haven't FIXED YAHOO by that time.

Swamped, but peeking in to support dimview.
Count "bid wins" seems to have found a new level ~ 3600, give or take.
ag
Was 21,000 a year ago, high of 68800 on Jan 10.
Level @ about 5000 for a few weeks and now dropped to current over the last 7 days.

A glitch on the site shows lots of false zero counts.
But ARE SALES UP?
The sell ratio is certainly up, but regards total sales, the answer seems to be NO. Despite the many improvements (in addition to eliminating most of the stale, penny-ante, etc. listings, the horrid "sellers' rewards" listing order mess is gone, and noticable search improvements have been made), in most categories sales seem to be down.
On 1/7 I identified some hot categories from the home page "What's Hot" featuring here is an update on how they are faring. Each of these categories was showing a decent level of sales at price levels which would appear to easily support the new fees (almost no penny ante).
Automotive > Vehicles > Cars > General
1/7 listings 32 pages, closed 34 pages
3/24 listings 9 pages, closed 15 pages, still active, down considerably
Electronics & Cameras > Television & Video > Camcorders > Digital
1/7 listings 11 pages, closed 17 pages
3/24 listings 3 pages, closed 10 pages, still active, down considerably
Entertainment > Music > Instruments & Equipment > Stringed Instruments > Guitar > Electric Bass
1/7 listings 32 pages, closed 34 pages
3/24 listings 2 pages, closed 3 pages
Coins, Paper Money, & Stamps > Coins > United States > Dollars > Morgan (1878-1921)
1/7 listings 80 pages, closed 139 pages
3/24 listings 25 pages, closed 113 pages, Excepting the Dale Earnhardt hearse chase, this is the hottest category I know of, even here sales look down.
These are just a few somewhat arbitrary categories, but as they were chosen by "What's Hot" were expected to favor yahoo autions strengths (obviously marginal categories, such as books, would certainly show much more dramatic declines). It looks like these hot category sales are down noticably. As the closed lists show 90 days of sales the latest sold pages still reflect the January free listings.
Looking around I see various things are selling well, often contested with multiple bids, and often surprisingly high results. In addition many items are selling (or going begging) at bargain prices. So yahoo auctions is certainly not yet dead, the claims of a successful transition to fee based also seem premature.

Thank you for the updates, as always they are very informative. Every day I look forward to see the changes on Yahoo!

I appreciate this daily thread and the helpful information that is often added by posters.
I continue to use "credits" to list about 10% of the number of previous auctions.
Mixed results, even considering the reduced number of listings, with an occasional pleasant surprise. Duplicate items that sold previously are generally no longer selling.
I have some time to wait and see as I still have credits but my feeling at this time is that I will not spend real money when the account balance runs out.
I did transfer about 75 listings to Bidville and have had a few sales. The same items did much better on YAHOO before fees.
I still use eBay, really want a second strong venue, don't see one yet and will wait and hope that some place developes in the coming months.
