Hi Dimview. I've been away for a few weeks and am finding traffic at yahoo, at least in the postcard category, is way, way down. In fact, I think we are close to the death rattle. Has an alternative site for postcards emerged as yet? Any hint of yahoo's waking up and finding a way out of their self-imposed auction site destruction?

akamich,

I've gotten about twenty postcards during the past two weeks ... Bidville and ePier.

John10101,

What happened? <grin>

I thought there was a respectable 30% sell-through rate here, but it looks like sellers continue to thumb their noses at Yahoo!Auctions.

eBay's numbers are declining too, so maybe the no-fee auctions sites have a chance to make some real gains from the fee-based ones.

Does anybody have the stats on the Militia category? The medals category seems to be holding at close to what it was. Maybe down 20% or less?

DimView,

Well, sell-through could still be in the high 20's or low 30's AND the number of items could still be declining. That's not remarkable. It just means that Yahoo hasn't hit absolute bottom yet.

It would be interesting to have some hard numbers on what is being listed there with credits and what's being paid. How much in credits are left? That would answer how far Yahoo ultimately drops. So far what we've heard are anecdotal.

Just as a side note, I was amazed that Yahoo took the lesson from its auction in the US and put in mainly a final value fee in Japan. That seems like the wrong lesson learned. IMO they should have taken the lesson from Ebay in Germany and the UK, where it had critical mass and a big leads, and put in a listing fee, followed a few months later with a final value fee. If a listing fee could work anywhere it'd be in Japan.

John

P.S. Is there any one main category for militia? Is there one (or just a few) category numbers for that?

There is no way Yahoo has hit bottom. Lots of people still have lots of credits. I would estimate that 85-90% of what is being listed is being listed with credits.
