HI
I'm new to this board. I've been reading some of the posts trying to catch up. I've been selling on yahoo (off/on) over 2 years. Anyway, the last 5 months I've been doing GREAT! I've had active bidding and quite a few sales with buy now option. The types of items I sell are misc household, books, vintage items, craft booklets, dolls and box lots of items that I find at a local auction house.
I have a question for fellow yahooers...
this past week bidding is down (big time) for me. Has anyone else experienced this? I've also had days when I couldn't log onto Yahoo. I wonder if the site was down? Any insight you could provide would be helpful.
I know that for the past 2 years I've always done well at all the auction sites before during and after the 4th of July.
Hey if you want to chat and share ideas about selling on yahoo email me at [email protected]
Maybe we can help each other out

Yahoo was a bit slow last week but they obviously were upgrading again. As far as bidding that was also slow. I only sold 43/50 items last week. Of course that could be because I listed many items I had sold there in the past. Maybe a little staleness hurt me.

I've also seen the big slow down this week. I've been selling very well the past couple of months up until last week. Bidding has really slowed down even to the point that I cancelled some of my auctions because there was less than two days left with no bids and the starting prices were way below what they are worth. Bidding has picked up some today but not enough to make up for the past week.

i think with schools getting out over the last couple of weeks, a lot less people are spening time online.

Yes our sales this past two weeks are down. But to be honest, we are listing more on Yahoo than on Ebay. Our Yahoo sales are really strong right now. Hope it continues.
But overall, its slow. Our experience over the last 12 years ( we had a full time store), shows middle June to about mid July its slow. Then it picks up in August but then it dies quickly again as school reopens. Then its pick up time again until early January

Hi all
Thanks for the info. I checked around at some of the other auction sites as well. Sellers are reporting slow bidding on Ebay too. Whew! I thought maybe it was me or something. I have faith in the 4th of July week. Maybe I'm crazy but I've done well in the past. I'm going to go and list a bunch on Yahoo tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.
Have a good week

We've had a lot of activity over at BidVille due to our $1-Sale that began last week and continues through July 2nd. You might consider listing a few things at BidVille since the sale seems to be bringing in bidders. I personally have experienced a major increase in pageviews, bids and counter bids. Hope this helps! By the way, BidVille is free to buyers and sellers.

this is the Yahoo board. Janet asked "Hey if you want to chat and share ideas about selling on yahoo..."
If you had checked out her auctions before offering advice you'd see she not only lists at BV she has links promoting the $1 sale. I'm sure if she wanted to talk about BV she'd do it on the Other Auctions board where it belongs. Is BV so desperate for attention they send you here to try and take every Yahoo discussion off topic? It seems most if not all of your posts to this board for several weeks have served no other purpose.
If you have any advice for Yahoo listings please continue. If not please stay on the other auctions board.
Janet
You have excellent high feedback & great items at very reasonable prices. Professional ads, satisfaction guarantee, flexible payment options and over 500 sales in the past 90 days. LOL, I have no advice other than keep doing what your doing.
I don't know about down time, I have not been to Yahoo in over a week due to vacation. That could be where some of the bidders are too.

I sold on Yahoo for two years. I believe I have a perfect right to post anywhere I'd like to. No one sends me anywhere. I have a mind of my own.
I'm sure there are Sellers who wouldn't mind knowing their options. The $1-Sale has been a lot of fun. I did not come in here and slam Yahoo as I COULD have (and still could). I simply offered an alternative to slow sales... or even an idea for other sites to pick up the pace during this slow sales season. Why would that disturb you so?
Have a great Sales day on whatever site you happen to be and think about free speech a little would ya? I don't know how many times I have seen Yahoo Sellers over in the Other Auctions board jumping in and slamming BidVille and every other small auction site that happens to report anything positive. Do ya'll send them?

It has been a little slower for me also. I have taken notice that there are more and more bids the last night. I don't have as much up as I am taking the summer to work on the website. I was over on Yahoo shopping the other night and I found it frustrating the number of sellers that didn't included shipping costs. That sure would help. I have gotten stung a few times on the auctions with very high shipping costs.
I also prefer to use paydirect when shopping there. I bid on 4 ink cartridges and paid 1.00 more a piece because one seller accepted paydirect and it just made it easier for me. There were quite a few things on Yahoo that I didn't buy over the last few months because the seller didn't have paydirect. Paydirect is good for impulse buying I think over at Yahoo. There are quite a few things I bought because I could use the buy now and pay via Paydirect.
Almost everything I sell on Yahoo is paid via Paydirect. From other people I have talked to though it seems that other sellers even ones that use Paydirect don't get a lot of people that use it but it has helped me sales.
I think that bids may also be down because the site has been a little slow with the software changes they are making. However I have also noticed my ebay sales are a little slower and my web site has also slowed down early this year. Half com is slow also. For a few days there half com was dead for me.
Maybe the summer slow down is happening earlier this year . . . that is okay by me just as long as it doens't get to slow.

MsJanet, sorry for having to derail your thread yet again.

"think about free speech a little would ya?"
Funny, I recall asking you to do the same in a post where you implied negative remarks about BV should not be voiced. That WAS a free speech issue. Here all I did was ask that you post BV chat to the appropriate forum as THIS board's purpose is to talk about Yahoo (thus it's title- Yahoo Auctions).
All 5 posters stated they have been enjoying strong sales on Yahoo until the past week or so. No one asked for advice on trying another site. You took this Yahoo discussion off topic like many previous with your usual BV promotion. I realize this behavior is BV users only hope of seeing their site "advertised" but wouldn't it better serve BV to take your SPAM to some NON auction related boards? Spread the word to people who HAVEN'T heard of BV? You might entice some badly needed bidders instead of wasting your efforts here trying to recruit we sellers who ALREADY post on BV.

TraceyG:
I like your comments about paydirect. As sellers we like the "impulse buyers".
Everyone has mentioned that Yahoo had site upgrades. I wonder? did Yahoo announce this anywhere and did I miss it. I ask because if I had known I would have delayed listing some auctions last week. I took several "bad" hits last week if you know what I mean.
THE GOOD NEWS! Bids have picked up since last night so maybe we are back on track.
Also, I've enjoyed talking to some of you this week from this post. You've all been really helpful.
I'd like to start another subject on this board. All invited to participate.
Look for it - Subject: Does Featuring Auctions on Yahoo Really Work?

Me? I don't theeeeenk so Lucy. You must have me confused with someone else. I don't have the first clue what you mean by voiced. Perhaps you should spend hours searching for my comment to show me?

cuff and everyone,
It has come to our attention that the folks in this forum want to discuss stuff that is going on at Yahoo. For this reason, I'm going to ask you to confine your comments about other auctions to the forums for other auctions. This is not to say that you cannot mention other auctions, but the primary focus here is Yahoo.
Thanks for your cooperation.
