I won a Yahoo auction about 3 weeks ago, and I have yet to hear from the seller - no reponse to my 5 emails.

Does Yahoo have any sort of "reminder" email feature, or a way to pull the seller's info?

All I can find is the seller's email address.

Thanks for the help!

You can't "pull" any info. A user may choose to reveal another email, for example, in their "About Me" page.

Alternate workarounds are to leave a message within the auction listing page (there's a line for that which only the seller and high bidder can use and see)... or more aggressively, you can neg them with an apologetic phrasing stating their email isn't working and you'll change the rating up to good as soon as they contact you and complete the deal.

Can you tell from their FB note dates if they've completed other auctions since yours expired, or possibly been out of touch with everyone else, too? Any listings from them dated since yours expired? People do get sick & hard drives crash, so I always try to allow a lot of time and phrase inquiries diplomatically unless I can see I'm being jived.

Hmm, I can't seem to to find the communication link to mention. I tried "asking a question" but it won't let me after the auction has ended.

He's a new seller with no ratings. He did leave feedback for 2 other auctions after I won, but no buyers have rated him yet.

Also, the feedback/rating page states that ratings can't be edited or removed in the future?

Thanks for the help.

Look through the closed auction page, THE SELLER sees this text, I pasted it here directly from one of mine; you type text into a box and click a radio button that says "Commit":
"Transaction Log
Add a note: The note will appear in the log below and will be viewable by your winning bidders."

I checked one of my few "won" auctions where I bought something and I now see the BUYER doesn't have this option to leave a message, only the SELLER. Neverrrrmind there. No wonder you can't find it.

However, there IS a semantics situation with the feedback instructions. The rating area says: "Once posted, feedback cannot be edited or removed." This is true, but refers only to the text you type in. You can later add MORE lines of text with a later time-stamp, AND can switch the rating from bad to good or whatever. That way you can stick a glaring red neg into somebody's record to get their attention but switch it to "good" if they respond. You just need to be diplomatic and neutral in the text you enter, since that will remain as the first comment.

Like, "Hey, sorry to get your attention with a neg, but you haven't contacted me! Get in touch and I'll switch this mark to good!"

Maybe I should add this USED to be how it worked, I shouldn't assume some "improvements" made while my back was turned, should I? I'm almost completely a seller on Yahoo so might have the buyer options wrong... you better look over a closed auction page for a purchase you've already left FB on and be sure you can alter the ratings and add more text as a buyer... I absolutely can do so from the selling side.

Pyth00n, good ideas. This one may have been changed.
"leave a message within the auction listing page"
I couldn't find a transaction log on my last Yahoo won page. I don't know if they've done away with it.

Yahoo won't give you anything but an email address. If the seller has current ads you can use the ask a ? link in one of those. You can also enter their email add on a ebaY search to see if they have ads there where you could do the same.

If they have a Paypal logo in their ad you can put your mouse pointer over it to see if there is a different email address than Yahoo gave you.

You are correct, feedback can't be edited but you can change ratings and enter new feedback later. You can enter a neg for no contact now (it will always show). But if you two resolve the contact problem you can later enter a good stating the matter was completed successfully.

Thanks for the suggestions.

This is my first purchase on Yahoo so I don't want risk a retaliatory neg from a new seller that may not care about selling again.

The ebay search is the first thing I tried a couple weeks ago - no luck!

And no Paypal logo!

Oh well, I didn't send him any money yet so it's no big loss (though I won for way under what the items would fetch on ebay).

You could leave a neutral and in the comment box state you have been unable to make contact after 5 trys and if seller still wants to sell item email you. To be honest, I don't think I would want to deal with this seller at this point, but if you have posted a comment (even a "friendly" NEUTRAL), that could warn others and perhaps protect you from a NEG stating YOU made no contact!

An email is automatically sent to the seller by Yahoo whenever you post FB and it tells them you have been rated XXXX by XXXX and there is a link for them to go to see the comments.

If this person does leave you a neutral OR neg, you can respond to their comments and state you had tried 5 times to make contact and didn't want the seller thinking YOU were avoiding them and you left a neutral hoping to get their attention.

Since, Yahoo allows a user to toggle on just the NEGS and pull them all up, any seller who was concerned about you having 1 neg, could see exactly why even after it disappeared off the front page. I don't see how many sellers would hold a neg in this situation against you.

I am sorry your first experience with Yahoo has gone sour. There are a lot of good sellers on Yahoo please don't judge them all by this one. Good luck!

I've been on ebay for a long while and I know there are always a few bad apples. No fault of the site.

I use AW search and I don't really care what site the item is on - it's all the same to me. The AW search saves me so much time that I rarely bother searching only at eBay.

Only thing that bothers me about Yahoo is their indifference towards copyrighted material. I search for computer games, but most of the titles are pirated. I've emailed them about it a few times but they don't seem to care at all.

bobokiki3-Unfortunately you are correct about Yahoo not seeming to care...

Heck, they don't even care that there is at least 1 seller who cheats them out of listing fees by starting all their auctions at $1.00 NR (paying a listing fee only on THAT amount) and then charging the customer the real cost of the item in shipping fees!

When I did finally get a reply from them, it was to tell me they would look into it and if something needed to be done, they would take care of it.....they did do something about it, they made that seller a Premium Seller a couple of weeks later!!!

So be sure and read ALL the ad of any auction your interested in to be sure your not being charged the real price of the item disguised as shipping!

I also agree AW's universal search is a great feature. I use it all the time!

I know EXACTLY who you are talking about. It has been my pet peeve for several weeks now. How dare they make someone like this a premium seller. Wanna share notes? email me at [email protected]

I meant to ask if you got a great deal might be the reason for him avoiding you. That stinks but I'm afraid it happens to us all sooner or later.

"they did do something about it, they made that seller a Premium Seller"

You made me spit my drink all over the screen! (wipe, wipe)
That's typical Yahoo. I'm reminded of a post months ago where people were talking about a seller who opens for $9.99 no reserve but says right in the ad he only does it for the cheap fee and the actual item price is $50. He had negs for refusing to sell for high bids of $9.99 and responded to them with something like 'read the ad idiot, it clearly states the real price'. Then he gives the buyers retaliatory negs. He sounds like such a swell guy I just looked to see if they made him a Premium seller yet! Aw, not yet...

Lots of buyers fb's said they were reporting him to Yahoo and posters here did the same. As you can guess nothing was ever done about it. His closed lists show he hasn't changed his $9.99 opening vs. the $50 price yet. He started this crap Jan 10, same day fees started and is still getting away with it 6 months later. He was running 800 weekly ads at $1.30 savings each. That's over $1000 a week Yahoo lost on him beginning 25 weeks ago. Pretty unbelievable they never cared, then again, typical Yahoo.

Well, least everyone think me petty and trite, I normally do not become involved in anyway with another seller's business. I can even agree with "buyer beware" and recognize they should read the entire ad before bidding, but this was just really a little much!

I have no real recourse but to just NOT list on Yahoo. I choose not to duplicate this type of tactic just to compete, but I will not pay a listing fee based on my true price while someone else gets by for a $1.00 or $9.99.

I know everyone is tired of hearing me whine, and I really do try not to harp on it, but it seems to just pop out everytime I try and discuss anything related to Yahoo. I think I am beginning to "compulse"!!!

Goodnight all!
Thanks for the addy Janet
