I have been lurking around on this forum for awhile. I have also been a casual ebay/yahoo
user for several years. I have read about those people who have been able to create a
"mini business" or steady extra income based on auctions. Would anyone ( a veteran perhaps) be willing to list some advice or techniques on how to do this?
For example, How does one go about looking for and acquiring good merchandise to sell?

Hi
Do you plan on selling on the auctions part time or full time? If it's part time -dman3's comments are right on the mark. That's how I started Low invest to start and sometimes the returns are good.
I went full time last year (partly because I needed some time off for health reasons). Full time has worked for me!
I researched the net, read the message boards (like you are doing), did numerous internet searches and spent a few dollars on buying wholesale lists, CDs etc from other sellers. I also started signing up for newsletters via email and catalogs. I found my favorite niche. I like crafts. So.. I found sources for buying wholesale craft items and starting selling them. I'm now selling gift type items for the home. The majority of my items come from a local auction house where I can get box lots for $5-10. Sometimes it's junk but you never know.
Hope this helps.
