Just saw Yahoo advertising items from the Auction site on their stock market news pages. The Yahoo market news pages are some of the most highly trafficked pages on the Web. Maybe they're finally getting it! They should hit the Yahoo Stock message boards next as they get more than 20 times the daily traffic of AuctionWatch --- maybe even 50 or 100 times. This is FREE advertising they can run at anytime and Yahoo has arguably the most valuable, most highly trafficked real estate on the Web. Nice ads too and they all seem to be different, highlighting different products being sold on auctions. It's about time since it seems 90% of Yahoo users have no idea Yahoo auctions exist.

Here's a sample page:

saw the same type of ads in yahoo sports too. The ads look targeted, giving bobble heads and Ichiro cards to people interested in baseball is hitting the right people at the right time. They aren't going to win a cleo for this kind of ad, but taking real items with real bids that are near to close will certainly create a sense of urgency in potential bidders. this is the one big advantage yahoo has over anyone else. Come on dimview, what's wrong with this?

Auctions is also back in the middle of Yahoo.com. Five categories are highlighted: Barry Bonds, digital cameras, morgan dollars, playstation 2, and mp3 players.

eSeller,

Thanks for posting the link and information. I have heard rumors that Yahoo is listening/open to ideas for getting the auctions going again. Maybe this and the fact that it is again in the middle of Yahoo.com, is what the beginniing of a rebirth?

Okay, one can dream/wish, right?

sulyn1950,

Click the link and look to the right side of the screen. There's a vertical banner advertising various Yahoo auction items. It might be dynamic since the advertised items seems to be changing everytime I click. I just clicked it a few seconds ago and the ads are still running. They're running them all over the financial pages. It's FREE advertising for Yahoo since it's their own pages.

For instance here are other example Yahoo finance pages with the same Yahoo auction banner:

The ads are all over the Yahoo financial pages.

Yahoo is slowly getting it's advertising act together but they're still wasting some of their most highly trafficked real estate. For example, they're wasting literally billions of page views (no joke!) each year to their stock message boards by not advertising auctions and their shopping site there. Some people have those message boards open all day, or flip from one message board to another continuously. It's a highly interactive place.

If you look at the AOL message board on Yahoo you'll notice there's a large empty vertical region to the right side of the screen that would be a great location for an auction ad. Why waste that space? It's FREE advertising for Yahoo --- something eBay would have to pay big bucks for. There are hundreds of similar stock message boards on Yahoo that could be billboards for Yahoo auctions and the readers have money to waste!

eSeller,

I read your post and checked out the yahoo message boards. I think someone's listening...

Those "Live Auction" ads are showing up.
