I know I cut my auctions in half because of the lack of sales. I'm still working on credits so I will save them for holiday shoppers and not waste them during this slow period. I've even cut my ebay auctions due to lack of bidding.

IMO, the drops shown from a rather stable listing situation previously are completely due to the WTC horror. My listings are down about 40% in this one week and will likely go to down 60% if I don't literally force myself to go through the motions of scanning, photographing, and composing text for new ones through the day today. Sellers may also see decline in bidding interest and page hits this week and choose to hold off listings, but for me sales have been acceptable, actually, it's a personal numbness causing my listing falloff.
I frankly find it a bit ghoulish and bogus to present these numbers at this point in such a way as to imply there's anything at all relating to Yahoo Auctions' policies and level of effectiveness involved in the listings decline this week.

I don't think it was dimview's intent to be ghoulish. Business everywhere has suffered this week, and he is just reporting it, as he has been good enough to do for 9 months.
I spent Tuesday glued to the tv, and crying (unusual for me!). When hubby got home, he took me out to our favorite local TexMex restaurant, since I hadn't cooked and he thought I needed to get away from the tv.
The restaurant normally has a waiting line-it was 3/4 empty that night. The grocery store was virtually deserted. When I went on an appointment for work the next day, and stopped to do chores, every store was still empty.
It is hard to concentrate on business as usual when something so horrible is happening. But JMHO-we need to get on with life and with work. If we let this situation destroy us, the terrorists are still winning. I go to work every day, and stop and donate to the firemen collecting at every intersection. In fact, we have been carrying extra cash in our console so we don't have to dig for it. I pray several times a day, while driving, listing, etc (I don't think God cares how formal your prayer is, he'll take a quick one while stopped at a light!) But I do continue to work, to enjoy my family and friends. I am not going to let some madman take that away from me!
So keep posting, Dimview-we appreciate your efforts!

I keep hearing about Yahoo credits and never once heard about them when I used Yahoo to auction stuff (for about 8 months up to January 2001). What are these credits and how did people get them? I am considering returning to Yahoo since Epier (where I went) seems to be going to hell in a handbasket.

Credits were offered around the time they started jumbling up the listings. Sorry, the time to request credits has long since expired.

Yahoo has been in serious doldrums all summer long. The WTC disaster had no further effect other than to reduce the pageviews there and had a much greater effect of the Mighty eBay. If the Christmas shopping period does not buoy Yahoo Auctions sales/traffic they might as well give up on that enterprise alltogether.

I don't have as much listed on Yahoo as on ebay so I don't know what, if any, effect Sept 11 had on them. I just know what effect they had on ME which I've expressed enough on the various boards.
Anyway, the big picture for me viz a viz Yahoo is that it's doing fine. I am sorry to see so few listings in some categories I check [books] but these days I am now buying for re-sale so in a way it makes it easier to find stuff I want to buy.
I don't have my sale-through stats calculated, but it feels like around 50-60% and my sales amounts are good. I don't have to sell for a few dollars just to close the transaction. I list selectively even though I still have oodles of credits. The only reason I don't list more is due to limited time and inventory.

On the way to an appt yesterday, I stopped in Austin's largest antique mall to browse. I was amazed at the number of sale and going out of business booths. Apparently the economy is affecting business everywhere, not just online.

I collected some data but waited several days to post it for ePier and prefaced with this comment:
I collected and tabulated the following data on September 11, but waited these several days to post it in deference to the Nation's tragedy. I cannot find the words to describe my outrage with what has taken place and any expression of sympathy for those that lost loved ones seems wholly inadequate.

keziak...these days I am now buying for re-sale...
I have considered doing that but I worry that the shipping fees will out weigh the savings. Is it really worth while?

If you find a dealer with reasonable prices, ask about combining to save on shipping and buy several items from them. A reputable dealer will be willing to do this, and the savings on postage can be considerable.

I often have to email to see if the seller will ship for a less-expensive rate [say, media mail rather than Priority for a book]. If not, no sale from me.
It's encouraging to be outbid frequently when I do this on Yahoo, BTW! Shows that other bidders are out there.
