I received this in my email. I am signed up with Yahoo, but haven't had a Yahoo auction in at least two years. Has anyone else received this?
Is that number correct? Why would I owe them? Is this another effort to commit fraud or what?

oops, forgot to include letter:
Dear blconneraw:
Thank you for using Yahoo! Auctions.
Previously, you used our featured auctions or other fee based services on Yahoo! Auctions. We were unable to bill your account for these servcies, and this could be due to the following reasons:
1. The credit card information in your Yahoo! Wallet is incorrect. Please review your Yahoo! Wallet information at http://wallet.yahoo.com and make any necessary corrections.
2. Your credit card balance may be over its limit. We recommend you contact your credit card company to make sure your account is up to date.
To view your Yahoo! Auctions billing summary, go to https://billing.auctions.yahoo.com/show/billing
If you feel your Yahoo! Wallet and credit card balance is up to date, and you would like to make your payment immediately, please to go to https://billing.auctions.yahoo.com/show/billing and click the "Make Payment" link.
If you have any billing questions or need assistance, please call (408)530-5151 between 8am and 6pm Monday through Friday PST. In order for us to better serve you, please have your Yahoo! ID at the time of your call.

Check it out to see if you have a balance. If so and you didn't use the auctions like you state, then you better contact them to straighten it out. Then I would have them close your account so you can't run up a bill again.

The wallet is used for a lot of Yahoo stuff other than the auction. Stuff that was once free is now fee-based such as Yahoo Personals and Yahoo Classifieds.

No this is not a bogus letter, but an apparent example of what Yahoo is becoming. I received this letter and found that I have been suspended from Yahoo for a past due balance. Yahoo shows my balance as 0.00. I think that Yahoo may have a BIG GLITCH in their system. Now watch the listings drop.

The telephone number in the letter isn't correct. I tried to call it today and was told they didn't have service. I'm suspecting that it is an error or bogus.
BTW, anyone know what the telephone number to Yahoo is?

I responded to this SPAM from Yahoo wherein I made reference to the SPAMMER's ethnic background ... can't repeat it here though.
PS ... that "Anthony COll", Copyright Expert doesn't exist either ... just as bogus as the letter

I received one, thought it a spam, but tada was billed on my credit card!!!
I got into yahoo and b*tched up a storm, demanded my money be credited back, and to DE-register me. I have not sold nor bid on anything on Yahoo in OVER 2 years, more like 3.
I have not heard a word back from their
'Customer Service' yet.

You must remember, there are no humans working at Yahoo, only robots. Once you grasp that concept, the rest makes sense.

First I have not done any auctions on Yahoo in a very long time (over 2 years) and then only did 5 auctions! Never used Feature, and I don't even know if they had a gallery then.
But I've been charged. I was able to get in and look at my 'account' it shows paid (a couple days ago) and there is no auctions charged for, just some reference number, for I don't know what.
Well I guess I got a robot answer me :
Hello XXXXXXX.
Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Auctions.
The Yahoo! Auctions billing systems have recently been upgraded. As a
result, your account has been made current and you may have been charged
for any previously uncollected balances you accumulated by submitting or
featuring auctions on Yahoo!. For more information regarding this
charge, please refer to your Yahoo! Auctions Billing Summary.
To view your entire billing history, please follow these steps:
1. Click on the "Options" link in the upper-right corner of any
Yahoo! Auctions page.
2. Under "Seller Options", click on the "Billing Summary" link.
3. Your Billing Summary details how much you have spent to submit or
feature each of your auctions, as well as your current balance owed and
payments received.
To view information from a prior month's billing cycle, please use the
drop-down menu located toward the upper-right side of your "Billing
Summary" page.
All Yahoo! Auctions charges are billed through your Yahoo! Wallet. If
you would like more information on the credit card information in your
Yahoo! Wallet, please visit:

Think of all the accounts that had a few dollars balance due in them at Yahoo hit. They must of tallied up all of the money owed to them in auction fees in the past two years or so and then hit all the still-valid credit cards. The lawyers probably said their TOS ( Terms of Service ) covered their robotic butts. There are a hell of a lot of people that have several credit cards and do not scrutinize their credit card invoices each month. These people may never notice a few dollars extra on the old monthly bill.
Is Yahoo that desperate for cash? How many companies would pull this stunt?

Here's the billing phone number given in the Wallet section as well as their billing policy.
The Yahoo! Auctions billing period ends on the fourth Friday of the month(06/28/2002). Your credit card will be charged on the following Monday(07/01/2002), as well as:
You will be charged when your account reaches $100.00.
If you have never been charged for your use of Yahoo! Auctions, you will be charged when your account reaches $25.00.
We use the credit card information on file in your Yahoo! Wallet. For help with billing issues, please call (408) 349-5151 between 8am and 6pm Monday through Friday PST. Please have handy your Yahoo! ID and Auction ID. Without this info, we will not be able to answer your questions.
It seems like $25.00 was too high a minimum for some of their sellers.

Maybe some sellers thought they could charge up near the $25 limit and not trip the automatic hit on their credit card and never have to pay anything?

It now occurs to me, based on the horror (whore?) Yahoo stories I am reading here, that perhaps the letter isn't bogus after all.
When Yahoo suspended me, I had a couple of listings outstanding. They, of course, canceled the listings and told me I owed them listing fees (around 20 cents I recall).
That was/is a great Yahoo scam ... cancel listings whenever they need the money, don't bother to tell the seller why the listings were cancelled, and still charge the seller. Heck, if they cancel 100,000 listings in one day (maybe everything that begins with the letter 'S'), think how much free money they'd get. They wouldn't have to maintain the listings either and could probably unplug one or two of their bots and realize some real savings.
The funny part is their letter to me refers to an outstanding balance on my credit card. I have never had a credit card, and if I did, the last place I would use it would be on Yahoo

a few months ago, I tried to bid on something, and was not allowed to because my account was past due on $1.25. I tried to pay the bill, but became so confused about how to do it, I gave up. I received the bill, My credit card was charged, and I can now bid again. The nice things about so few listings, is that there are now very few bidders, so if I see something I want, I almost always get it for the first bid. I then take it to Ebay, and make 100% to 500% profit.
