Do you guys all use Yahoo's alerts?

It seems to me that there must be quite a few people who use them. My best items frequently close within 24 hours of having been listed. It seems very likely to me that alerts play a part in this, since many of my closed auctions have page views of 1 and 2.

I've been using alerts since I registered. For the most part I think they're fantastic! I'm quite confused about some of the alerts I get though. Some of them have nothing to do with anything I asked to be alerted about!

GREAT! glad to hear they work for someone, I installed them, but never got any to work, got tired of the thing popping up everytime I went on line, and since I was getting nothing, although we have continual sales on Yahoo, I finally removed the feature.

I am presuming you are meaning the same system that will allow instant messages from friends?

CAgrrl - if you are a seller - what is the point in alerts? I get the feeling from readng your post that you feel it assists you in selling, I thought about this, and can't see how it would be a sales assistant...

Please explain.

Among other things, I sell Barbies. Say for example
one day I list Golden Dream Barbie for sale on Yahoo. If there is a Barbie collector out there who really wants Golden Dream Barbie & has an alert set, Yahoo will email her the auction listing; she'll see the auction even if actually surfing to Yahoo had been the farthest thing from her mind that day. She might even be the first one to find the auction listing, & buy the item right then & there. So if people are looking for what you're selling, alerts help you, the seller, as well as the buyer.

I collect Barbies fanatically, and there are specific things that I am on the lookout for. Whenever someone list those items on Yahoo I get alerted. Of course it's only so helpful, because I get alerted to a fair amount of stuff that has nothing to do with anything I collect, let alone anything I have asked to be alerted about. What karoake machines have to do with Barbie is beyond me, but I get alerts about them all the time. Is that what was happening to you too jwpc?
