I've been shopping Yahoo over a year and I don't recall ever seeing an ad with a background. I don't know if or how it can be done but here is the URL for ? to Yahoo Auctions
Question 4, from the drop down menu click HOW TO. They are unfortunately infamous for sending canned responses with an answer that has nothing to do with the ? asked. If you get a response like that just click Reply on it and say please re-read and reply appropriately. That usually works because a real person will then look at it.

Yahoo may not allow background "wallpaper" on their auction, but I don't know since I've never tried to use it.
I don't remember ever seeing a Yahoo Auction listing with a background color or pattern, just colored "boxes" holding type, floating on the white background.

I have not been able to get backgrounds to work on Yahoo either, but if you use a table, you can color the table background with no problem.

interesting.
Grapey, in my humble opinion you're better off without the MIDIS anyway. They almost always make my computer crash. Easiest way to discourage me from bidding on an auction, period. If I see a sound file trying to load I hit the "back" button as fast as I can.

The key to background color on yahoo is useing tables.
you will find that you cant use tiled back grounds at all .
But yahoo does offer a custumized aution booth that you can use back ground files templets sound files and company logos from auction home click options to find this they even offer a on line site editor to help you out you will have to direct people to this booth it will have a url different from the main auctions it will be more like your yahoo personel store the service is free
