I was watching Entertainment Tonight and they did a segment on movie stars auctioning off their blue jeans and other items to benefit the MS Foundation.
Since they said the items would be auctioned, I automatically assumed they meant Ebay. They didn't, they announced that the auction will be held on Yahoo Auctions.
I would think this is an indication that Yahoo is at least beginning to be more well-known and may begin to give Ebay real competition.
What do you think?

I hope so!
I'm still a newbie at the auctions, and I already know which I like better. YAHOO!

I'd be interested to know just what kinds of "deals" they make with these high-profile charity auctions, since eBay has "milked" the Rosie O'Donnell charity auctions for all the publicity they're worth, and now takes applications for auctions from charities submitting directly onto their site.
I wonder if the charity just CHOSE Yahoo over the "competition", or if Yahoo OUTBID the competition and is paying the MS Foundation (i.e. "donation" for the privilege of auctioning the items (considering the free publicity Yahoo will get)??????? Same with auctions of the big movie studios, since Yahoo now has FOX movie memorabilia up for auction (check out their feedback, by the way--link is on the Auction home page).
It does appear Yahoo has decided to give ebay a run for their money, at a time that Amazon seems to be relegating their auction to the back pages.
YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

I've also been seeing print ads for the celeb Yahoo auctions in national magazines for the past few months.
I hear WWW.Yahoo.com gets the third the 3rd highest hits on the Internet. Guess it's all those "Do you uh Yahoo" tv commercials drawing traffic. The button for Auctions is the first item at the top of the page. Auctions is in bold under shopping. The Marketplace box on the right begins with "Y! Auctions.
They are certainly trying to bring us customers. Yahoo!

I keep wondering what kind of publicity they'll get if those celebrity auctions are "won" by deadbeats with negative 20 ratings using non existent email ids. Maybe that's what it would take to get Yahoo to clean up their act.

yisgood Don't tempt me.
Edited to add that my feedback isn't like that, but it's too easy to make a fake account and build it up....

I cant under stand the additude here all on these boards are screaming for positive media on auctions.
When positives come out some troll comes along trying to dig up more tripe.
I have been selling on yahoo and ebay for well over a year now and I have had many sucessfull sales in all two dead beats and one of then was an ebay sale not yahoo.
dead beats are out there but yahoo has come a long long way they havent got ebay on the run yet but you can bet they are looking back and thinking they have to do something for the seller very soon or not sleep at night and watch whats next at yahoo.
this yahoo board use to be near dead with about 5 regulars who posted and in the past months it picked up fast 80% are people who use to or are currently still selling on ebay testing out yahoo and are finding the turn over to be fine for them not to mention there is no NPB forms FVFS listing fees and stuff 100% of there sale in there pockets. some of these seller were pretty strong on yahoo and could I think sway a few who could sway more and if this trend keeps up .
in a year or so the 2 or three left over on the ebay baord can have the whole form to bicker over the fact they dont trust paypal and wont bid auction that use there banner and will still be complain sales are worse then they are now :P
lets keep the additude on yahoo auctions positive. if your selling in the right circles dead beats are 1 to every 100 sales.
then again your listing was free. relist or sell to the next highest bidder and next high bidder.

I agree. I am selling on yahoo now as a transfer from ebay. I sell under my name on yahoo. My wife will not leave ebay so we both share the same id on auctionwatch. I am with all of you on yahoo. I go to estate sales and put my first run stuff on yahoo trying to make as much as I can. Then after one relist I will let my wife post on ebay. I am not a fan of the big ebay monster but between my wife and I we are putting up some good numbers as sellers. One of us is going to have to start devoting full time status to this venture soon. I have only had one deadbeat so far. It taught me to use the rating finder so that no negatives will be allowed at my auctions.
