Recently I created decided to create 2 new separate ID's for selling since I generally sell 3 different categories of items. In light of the new changes it also seemed like a beneficial thing to do.

I listed about half a dozen auctions under my first new ID well before Yahoo's new 1000 auction limit took effect. Just a few days ago I listed another half dozen auctions under ID #3. Then I went to list more auctions under ID #2 and got an error message saying "YourID#3 is currently using that credit card" & referring me to Yahoo's credit card policy or something like that. It wouldn't let me list under ID#2 no matter what I did... so I clicked on the link to that policy & it basically said that you were only allowed to register 1 account per credit card. I emailed customer care to ask how to take care of the problem & this is the resonse I got:

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

We apologize for the inconvenience you may be experiencing. In order to
have a safer auction environment for buyers and sellers, we now permit
users to have only one Yahoo! ID for selling. We are hoping that this
policy will help address the issue of eliminating spam on Yahoo!
Auctions. We value your opinion as we evaluate the effectiveness of this
policy.

Regards,

Amanda
Yahoo! Auctions Customer Care

ACCKKKKK!!!!!

I'd like to add that my all 3 of my ID's were registered using the same credit card & ID#1 has been completely unaffected as far as I know up until now.

CAgrrl - this is highly distressing news. Do you have more than 1 credit card and are you able to change out the cards associated with the two secondary id's?

Do you have feedback on your other ids? Do you have a lot to lose? I do.

Please post anything you find. I cannot test stuff because I am leaving in the am and have pulled every single auction I had down.

You are only allowed 1 User ID, read the TOS in Yahoo! There are too many spammers using multiple user ID's.

I say that is GREAT news. One seller ID will stop all of the spammers!!

I say its great too if and when buyer register with there CC number in order to bid on one or more auctions they too will not be able to have more then one ID with the same info.

this wat buyers wont be able to register get 20 neg and just register with a new ID as well

it has a bad side too I can see that but what good is the 1000 item limit incentive if you can register 20 Ids each with 1000 item monthly limit with out the good service to back it up

VM- I have pending transactions under all 3 ID's but I don't have a lot to lose as far as feedback goes. The change to multiples was relatively new for me. I will reluctantly cancel ID's #2 & 3 once my pending transactions are complete. I don't like it but if that's Yahoo's rule, that is their rule.

I'm really feeling for the people who have been set up long-term with multiple selling ID's though. Especially the ones who set up that way with customer service in mind.

As far as bidding goes, if I'm not allowed a second ID for bidding, I will probably return to doing most of my auction purchasing on Ebay. I hate to limit myself like that but I've run into enough nightmare sellers that I want to be able to neg a truly terrible seller without worrying about an undeserved retaliatory neg affecting my livlihood. The customer care notice said nothing about multiple bidding ID's, only selling ID's. I'm not really clear on the policy there & might take a closer look at Yahoo's TOS later. Don't have time now.

This may actually be a good thing for many of us - buyers and sellers both.

If it cuts down on your competition - spammers - even a little, it may very well help your items get more clicks and hopefully, bids.

On my end, I hate to bid in competition with deadbeats who raise prices, win auctions of things I want - AND NEVER PAY FOR THEM. It has happened to me a number of times, and it is frustrating.

How can a serious buyers budget compete with the "bottomless purse" games of a deadbeat?
Whenever I see my competition is a low or negative feedback bidder, I cringe.

prophet- That is an excellent point, if indeed the buyers are limited to one ID as well.

I think it's a great policy. I was starting to cringe every time I read that someone was going to register another ID on Yahoo so they could cheat on the 1000 auction limit. Yahoo is FREE! People should be grateful they're getting 1000 free listings to begin with!

Well, I hate to rain on the parade, but I was able to place a bid with ID#2, the one I can't use to submit items for sale with. This blows any theory that anyone might have had about the policy's ability to eliminate deadbeats. Deadbeats can still collect ID's and bid to their hearts content, apparently.

On the other hand, maybe I won't have to delete my second ID- I'll be happy if I can just keep it for bidding. (Still gotta make time tolook over Yahoo's TOS.)

dmercer- as far as I always knew, it was perfectly legal to have multipe ID's. If it isn't now there won't be any way for anyone to "cheat" but it is a new thing that everyone is just starting to get used to, and questions abound. Believe me I am grateful to Yahoo for the free auctions, but I have to look out for my best interests, as do all sellers.

Edited to add that I don't spam- all my auctions are unique items. (If anyone cares.)

CAgrrl:
Ooops! I didn't mean to imply that those using multiple ID's for customer service purposes or divding up thier auctions by type were doing anything wrong!

I was getting irked at those deciding to use them to cheat the limit though.

Too bad something couldn't be arranged where a person could split up thier 1000 limit amoung several ID's 8-( This is going to hurt some people.

I too think it is a great idea only having one ID, but I don't think Yahoo can really prevent those determined to have multiple IDs from having them.

If all it takes is having a seperate credit card for each ID, then nothing is really going to change. Those who abide by the rules will not have multiple IDs, those who think the rules are for everyone ELSE will skirt around them. I do give Yahoo an A for effort though.

You can still bid with multiple ID's?

Ignore all postive comments I made earlier, the whiners and deadbeats just took another round.
