Well I'm as confused as everyone else is by the changes at Y but I'm starting to see some elements of the new program and the guidelines they will establish.

Everyone gets 1000 free listings per month.

You are limited to one sellers account. Two accounts sharing one credit card, for example husband and wife, seem endangered as do seperate accounts for personal/consignment items.

200 listings(assume 10 days length for this discussion) with 2 automatic relists will deduct 600 from your 1000 available free listings. Items will display for the entire month (3X10 day listings=30 days of exposeur). If nothing sells you will be charged an additional 200 listings at the end of 10 days and 20 days for non-selling listings(a form of non-performance penalty).

So we get to list 200 items free and could list in different combinations of number listed, with or without auto-matic relists, durations, product rotation etc. to use these free listings.

In addition to the 1000 free listings, sellers get an additional number of free listings depending on a number of factors, some of which are clear(your positive feedback number) and others which have been mentioned but are still just concepts to me such as your sell thru ratio. Sales to repeat buyers who leave positive feedback, NPB, negative feedback and other factors seem to have neutral or negative results on your free listing totals.

I continued to use the words "free listings" because listings for which you pay optional featured fees do not count against your totals. Minimum fee is 10 cents a day with a current promotion that 50% of fee is refunded if item sells.

More is to be revealed as Y explains the details and sellers understand the new program and how it impacts various listing pattern.

I don't feel it is "good or bad" of itself but it will have very negative effects on many successful sellers who had established a productive method of presenting items under the old rules.

I do feel it will result in a much changed Y marketplace, still offer many opportunities for positive use of the venue, needs much more clarification and has unnecessarily hurt many large volume sellers in the manner it was introduced.

Other changes such as initial presentation of items with a random closing time in categories or the elimation of description only words in search may be temporary or ongoing and will also have to be considered.

It seems to me that using the automatic relist is less attractive, 1st Bid Wins on 10 day listings still has merit, parking items with or without periodically reducing prices is less attractive, the end of the month will have less listings, paying for featured auctions has more merit and none of this will matter much to people listing less than 200 items in total per month.

I'm throughly confused, any of the above may be a completely wrong conclusion,I trust time will hopefully bring clarification, more insightful and experienced sellers will show us the way, Y will provide more info. and in the end it will be better, even for the good sellers that are now being hurt.

You and me both fella!

It might have been better if they had done this AFTER the Christmas Rush. We really needed to be able to list our hearts out during that time.

I dont know how it will work out for us small average sellers but to look at the eletronics computer and digital camera sales on yahoo it wont effect most of these listings at all the area is near sold out all the time

we shall find out if this program works if amount of inventory and sales in auctions drops much you can better they will need to change or suspend this limit

they cant get buyer with out a good amount of Inventory to sell and they cant get inventory if they limit all to much.

This can work for them and against then I sell on ebay and yahoo both for every Item I cant list on yahoo because of listing limits ebay gets more of my items like the fees or not Im investing in inventory I must move it even if I have to go rent a booth at the flea market to do it
