When I decided to start trying to sell, I started on Yahoo. 'Cause it was so easy. Then after reading AW for awhile I decided to try eBay. Then I decided to move back to Yahoo last month. I don't sell enough to do BOTH! I am strickly a "hobbiest" (not necessarily by choice ). Anyway, I began to notice that most of my bidders are "NEW"! I even had multiple "NEW" bidders on the same item! They got into a bidding war and put my 1st item ever in the "HOT" category. Now if I was on eBay, I probably would have been accused of "SHILLING"! I WAS kinda worried about how it might look to othe bidders. However, the auction closed and buyer made immediate contact and paid with PP. They seemed to be pretty saavy about how all that worked. So I really don't think they were new to auctions, maybe just YAHOO???

Anyway, I started looking real close at other auctions and have seen a dramatic number of NEW users shown as high bidders! What's going on? Do you think maybe Yahoo is attracting that many new bidders OR are we just seeing an influx of bidders who primarily used other sites before now?

Has anyone else NOTICED the trend OR is it just my imagination??? Thanks-Sulyn

I have always had lots of new bidders on Yahoo. Maybe a few more lately. They are my best and worst transactions. They either pay right away or not at all! Melanie

Many (most) of them are "new" to Yahoo from Ebay.

Whenever I send an item to someone who has won one of my eBay auctions, I put in a small note encouraging them to check my Yahoo auctions. It's not much, but I think that if everyone does this, the traffic on Yahoo can only increase.

I have a lot of "NEW" winners on my auctions also and a majority of them never follow through. Lately I've had a lot of non pay and they are all from "NEW" users.

My new users seem to be just fine so far. I have been on Yahoo a couple of months and have yet to have a deadbeat.

You are very lucky not to have had any deabeats yet mballai! I had 2 last week and 3 currently that look that way. They have been bad lately. Almost half of them are bidding the buy price. That doesn't usually happen to me. Bidding seems to be slow for me lately, so this is a double whammy!! Melanie

At least 75% of my new bidders paypal quickly and I just assume they are from ebay and expanding their horizons. I get less than 5% deadbeats anymore. Used to be about 20%.

I think as more people expand to Yahoo you will see the snowball effect. I list on Yahoo first and if I don't get a response I move over to eBay and usually sell. But I'm sick of paying eBays fees and I think little by little more buyers and sellers will be taking a look at Yahoo.

When I send EOA's out I always tell them to take a look at my auctions on Yahoo.

Why do I find the spelling errors only after I post?

The 1st Bid Wins has really been working well for me and I have to say thanks to whoever it was that kept encouraging the use of that format! My buyers are using PayPal most of the time--a few have sent checks. I have only been using Yahoo since the first week of Sept. so I can't say for sure if I have any deadbeats, but it doesn't seem that I do so far. (knocking on wood! )

Of course, I show as a new user too--new to Yahoo, but this is the 3rd season to auction a Ebay for me, so I am not really new to online auctions. Perhaps this is true for others too. I am also placing a card in my auctions showing my name at Yahoo and at the end of all of my e-mails along with a link to my Yahoo auctions and some of my "regulars" from Ebay have come over to bid at Yahoo lately too!

Thanks VeryModern--that is the BEST idea that I have had in a long time and the only reason why I stayed with Yahoo. It really is GREAT! Thanks again!

VeryModern, I didn't mean best idea that I have had, I meant that I have come across! Sheesh! I reread that and it wasn't clear the first time. I really WASN'T trying to take the credit! So Sorry!

labbie - no problem, I did not read it that way. I was just stepping up to take credit, I have definitely been banging these boards with the one bid wins for awhile.

However. The real credit goes to zzyzx000, who very neatly outlined how he/she was selling successfully on Yahoo on this board some months ago. It was one of the sanest and most helpful posts that I have every read on AW, and it is on his/her energy that I have hitchhiked.

Well I am a 1st Bid Wins Yahooaphile convert!

You know, I am really finding it difficult to get motivated to list on Ebay these days. Bids over there have been a bit slow and the fees just keep piling up--yet over on Yahoo, I can list, sell and have my money all on the same day and my credit card is not innundated with the load of fees! This is truly amazing!

I am sure that Ebay will pick up as it always does and since this is my first season on Yahoo, I just can't wait to see if Yahoo follows suit as as the holidays approach.
