I finally took everyone's advice and started listing at Yahoo this weekend. It's still a little confusing, after selling so long at ebay, but I managed to get my credits ($1400!!) for featured auctions, and figured out the actual mechanics of listing, etc.

I still haven't located the feedback forum (or whatever they call it), and nomatter how many times I click on "Automatic Relist", my auctions all say "no automatic relist."

Didn't I read somewhere that you could convert your ebay FB to Yahoo FB (not the featured thing)?? Or am I stuck with a "new" icon next to my name and starting all over again?

Yahoo experts out there, I'm listening!!!

fountainhouse - It used to be one or the other. Convert your fb to credits / or use your ebay fb number. Piece of advice? Take the money. No doubt your auctions look professional, and beyond that, just reference your ebay fb in your auction copy, and voila! Almost everyone on Yahoo got their via ebay and so you are going to be recognizable.

On the other, on virtually every auction age on yahoo, top left, there is a link "My Auctions". Click there and click "closed/sold" and you will have a list of your ended auctions. From there you can leave fb, or relist via a link next to each one.

You can AUTO relist if when you put the auction up the first time you put relist (2) times, default is (0).

More questions?
Ask 'em. We got answers.
Tips?
The threads we usually bring up for newbies around here is one by "kasmoon" I can't remember the title and my own Newbie tips which I will go find now.

Good Selling!

VeryModern, thanks for finding that other thread -- I'm going to take notes!

There must be some kind of restriction w/auto relist. It simply will not let me re-list the 2x that I continually ask for.

It was a little unnerving when I mistakenly put something in the wrong category and it wouldn't let me cancel the auction because I hadn't selected that option when I listed! That one makes no sense to me...

How are sales on Yahoo recently? I haven't gotten any bids yet, but my expectations really aren't that high. I'm using it to list my ebay no-sells at basically cost, so will be happy with anything that does sell.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure I'll be back with more newbie-isms!

fountainhouse, you should be able to "cancel" an auction at any time provided there are no bidders. If there are bids you have to cancel them first.

"Close an auction early" is a different animal. You can only exercise this right if you selected when you listed. This is probably the option you were clicking and that is why the error message.

On the 2X auto relists I can't imagine what may be going wrong. This is one bug/problem I have never heard anyone complain about.

fountainhouse- welcome!

there's another thread started by ToyRanch titled "experienced sellers share" that you might want to read also. I'm not sure how far down you'd have to go to find it but if I remember right is has some good yahoo-specific info in it.

Also, something to be aware of- auction listings on Yahoo are now defaulting to an order based on the seller's sell-through percent and feedback rating. This means that all those feature credits are REALLY going to come in handy for you- USE them!!! It will be the only way to get your listings close to the top until you make at least one sale and have some pos. FB.

Since that change (it is recent) my sales went WAY DOWN. After I got the feature credits a couple days ago & featured a lot of my auctions, my sales are booming again!!!! It's been good because now even my unfeatured stuff must be appearing high on the list, because I'm making sales on that as well.

You get credit for 50% of what you paid to feature each item once you sell it, so when you do sell the featuring is really inexpensive. (Well, right now with our credits it's FREE- even better!)

Good luck to you! As VeryModern said, when questions come up, ask!!! Yahoo is really worth learning to use & navigate- I think you'll be really happy you've taken the plunge!

Woo-hoo -- or should I say yahoo!!

I got my first two sales tonight! I've uploaded about 40 auctions since the weekend, all w/first bid, and really didn't expect to sell anything this soon.

So I got half my feature fees credited back and sent my EOAs out. I'll have to figure out a new management system, since I use ebud for ebay auctions. Lots to think about, but, hey, I sold something!!!

*Still* can't get the dang auto-relist to kick in when I check it, but maybe I won't need it. haha

Thanks for the help, VM and CAgrrl!

Edited to add: One of the items had been through ebay twice and couldn't get past $50. It sold at Yahoo for $75. Very interesting.

YAY fountainhouse! Verrrrry good sign!
On the software, AuctionTamer works with both Ebay and Yahoo (also Amazon). I use 3 id's and it lets me see all my auction on one screen so very nice.

I wholeheartedly agree with VeryModern...Auction Tamer is great. It's a huge time saver for post auction management.

fountainhouse-

some more food for thought: you may not want to use the auto relist feature if you plant to sell lots on Yahoo. Here's why: every seller gets to list 1000 auctions every month. You do get a new auction for every item you successfully sell. However, when you list, if you set the item to relist 3 times it subtracts 3 auctions from the total that you are allowed to list. Then if your auction closes with a winner the first time you list it, you've used up 2 listings needlessly.

Your amount of allotted listings will grow as you get more feedback, but if you sell a lot of merchandise, 1000 auctions per month might not be enough...

Auto relisted auctions do not count toward your monthly allotment any more.

Right, they don't but does it affect sell through rating??

Back again guys with another question: When an auction ends where do you go to relist it??? I've looked everywhere I can think of and no luck.

Progress report: I've sold 4 items since last weekend. I'm happy, but then again I'm easy to please. A more cynical person would look at the sell-through rate, which is pretty yucky at just 10%.

But who can complain -- its free! I didn't even have to spend much time on the actual listings because I still had the descriptions from their ebay outings, where they didn't sell, BTW.

If you go to the auctions home page, click on My Auctions (in the upper right corner), click on Closed/Sold (at the top), there will be a link there to resubmit them.

Thanks, VM, I had checked that page first thing.

I didn't find it there, but back in my list of active auctions -- it was automatically relisted. I guess that tick box works after all!

Thanks again.
