I have a question, if you mark all of your ads that you will ship internationally, is there any advantage to posting ads to any of Yahoo's foreign boards?

Has anyone had any truly exciting success posting to any of the foreign boards?

I tried the Australian Board without success, but on the "regular" Yahoo board we have lots of customers from Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. We get a few from Japan, and seldom if ever anyone from Europe.

If you have posted to the foreign boards successfully, I'd like to hear about your experience. Thanks!

I just checked the Canada Board. Although I live in Canada, when I did a search by my user name, no results were returned. However, when I did a search by key word, most of my listings appeared (in U.S. dollars).

I tried the same experiment with the U.K. site. No results were returned when I did a search by key word (or user name).

Well I checked, and although I mark everything International, my listings are not showing up in the Australian section - I would have though they would.

Oh well.....

I presume if one started posting on the Australian board, that those posts would also be included in one's 1000 or whatever limit, right?

Hi JWPC

I hadn't thought about posting on the Yahoo international sites til you brought it up. I also have a lot of Japanese, Australian, Canadian and English customers from my online shop.Through the years I have also had a lot of auction customers from overseas as well.Fortunately I have had none of the problems shipping overseas that some have- so I always mark Will Ship Internationally.

Just curious- because the only European site that I use is the English- JustBooks-- If you post on a Japanese or German site- do you post in English? I feel stupid even asking. But I sell collectibles that may be of interest internationally and in todays market- you don't want to leave any stone unturned!!

I am looking forward to hearing from anyone who has used any of the international sites successfully or not!

labelle,

If English is the only language you KNOW, then you'd have to post in English on the foreign boards!!!

I just assumed any Yahoo American Auction listing with "will ship internationally" checked would show up on all the foreign auctions, too, but I guess not, if your searches aren't pulling up your listings. I guess my foreign buyers are looking on the American Auction when they buy my items, and since they seem to find them without any problem, there doesn't seem to be much point in listing on the foreign boards.

Pacific Rim (Australian Board) and did a key word search on various of my items, NONE showed up; the same was true of Canada and the UK.

I think I'll try a few things posted on the Australian and Japanese boards.

I think you will find the Idea of the Foreign site is so that people in these countrys see listings in there own money values and language.

How would you know if your listing was in the german site when you did the search if your listing was translated into german or any other language you couldnt understand you would know by going to the american auctions for the english translation.

This is a very useful site which will translate foreign language web sites into English:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/translate.dyn

Just go the section asking for the url address and paste in the url for the foreign yahoo site. Then indicate what language you want the translation from e.g. German to English.

I used this site to translate the words at the eBay Germany auction site. It worked quite well.

Only problem is that you won't understand the EMAIL your foreign buyer sends you after he wins your auction posted in a foreign language!!!!!!!!!!!!

granee:

If one received a letter in a foreign language (outside of Japanese) you just take it to the Alta Vista Translation site and it will translate it for you.

I have used the site to communicate with foreign buyers who seem to have limited English, to make sure they totally understand what I am saying.

It is a GREAT site.

PROBLEM posting to Australia - well I decided to try posting to the Australian site, went into the Australian site, got the page filled out and continually when I clicked to review the auction, I got a Old Ebay term (server reset), I tried and tried to no avail, couldn't get an auction up.

I went back later in the day and had the same experience - don't understand it.

Has anyone else had this problem posting to the foreign sites?
