I had an auction close with a winning bidder. I go to check the winners rating and up pops her auctions. One of them is a thumbnail picture for, shall we say, mature audiences. Now the thumbnail is suggestive and the title even more so. Since this intrigued me a bit I clicked on it and it is what I call explicit porno.
Now I don't want to hear anything about it being my fault for looking at it; no one forced me, yadayadayada.
I have a grandchild old enough to do paper work for me. So my point is how easy this would be for a minor to see if they were checking out grandma's winning auctions.
Has this happened to anyone else? I think Yahoo makes it too easy for minors to get into the adult categories. I never realized how easy it could be to get into that section.

You had access because you are over 18 and registered with CC verification. If you want to make sure your grandchild does not have access to this type of adult material, don't let him/her browse the site after you have signed in on your PC. The site can not tell who is using your PC, only that the ID is a 'over 18' registered user. I know, it's terrible to have happen. Especially when the adult listing is 'out of the adult area'. When you see this kind of auctions, they should be NWed, (Neighborhood watch reported), as 'out of area adult'.

I buy and sell stock and bond certificates. I remember how my mouth dropped the first time I did a search on eBay for "bonds" and some bondage type items came up in the search.

LOL Irene! Ditto for me with my "Barbie" searches. I'm searching for the DOLLS, NOT the twins, Bentons, etc.
I NW or "safeharbor" those ASAP if I have time to do it though because I wouldn't want little kids, who might logically be searching for Barbies, to find all the same porno junk I find. Plus it wastes my time. If I want the Barbie TWINS, I know where to look for them- in the adult category where they belong.

"You had access because you are over 18 and registered with CC verification."
This is not necessarily the case, there is a major glitch at Yahoo in this regard. The above applies if you try to enter the adult area directly. However, it does not apply when accessing adult auctions through someones feedback or through the sellers listing page. For example, if you are looking at an auction for a Barbie and go to check the sellers feedback, or look at their other auctions...if the seller also has items listed in the adult area, or have received feedback from adult sales/purchases, they WILL ALL show up....regardless of wether you are signed up, credit card verified, or logged in or not. Yahoo really does need to fix this problem.

I beg to differ with you. Take the url of an adult seller's listing page which has adult auctions only, and try to access their auctions as a 'guest'. Paste their url in the address box and 'enter' it. If all of their auctions are adult it will say seller has "no listings". 'Sign in' to Yahoo! and then enter the url again, and you will see all of their adult auctions.
If the seller has a mix of adult, and non-adult auctions. Signed in you will see them all, as you are CC verified and assumed to be over 18. If just viewing as a 'guest' you will only see the non-adult items. I just rechecked to make sure, as your comment was puzzling to me? Maybe you should check in the future too.
The only way you will see an adult auction as a guest is IF it is on auction, OUT of the adult area.

My apologies, apparently it has been fixed...though it did not use to be this way. As I do not shop for this type of merchandise, I do not check it on a regular basis and there will be no need for me to check it in the future.

"As I do not shop for this type of merchandise,..."
I don't shop for these items either. I NW these types of sellers when I find them 'outside the adult area'. They pop up all over the auction site. You do not have to look for them, they are where they don't belong.
However, before I would paste a persons comment up on this board and tell them they are wrong. I would definitely check my contradictory statement, first, to make sure my comments were current & accurate.

It amazes me that people around here take everything personally. The way things change with all the services out there now, I most certianly can't keep up with every one of them...and I'm sure no one else does either. I may copy a quote from someone, but it is nothing personal. What I stated above, although it may have been inaccurate at the current time, was addressing the subject and nothing was directed toward the person who made the comment. If you would like to correct the statement I made that was incorrect, that is fine and I appreciate you doing so...but there's no need to get personal about it as you did.

"they WILL ALL show up....regardless of wether you are signed up, credit card verified, or logged in or not."
Your comments were directed at me. You quoted a part of my comments, to base your post on. Then went into detail as to why you felt I was mistaken. The use of caps is not exactly a simple phrasing, it is like shouting at someone. I did not take your mistaken correction of my post personal, but I do take exception with the way you stated it 'at' me. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I respect that right. Giving a differing opinion while directing it at another poster, in caps, is not necessary. Especially when the correctional opinion is incorrect, in itself.

I quoted your post as a reference for what my comments pertained to as there were several posts about several points. It had nothing to do with you, I did not mention your name, and I said nothing to you. I made comments pertaining to the SUBJECT of your post, not to you.
As far as the caps, I would understand if my whole post had been in caps. I use the caps for emphasizing a word or phrase not for shouting. Not everyone here has the same proficiency level posting in UBB, maybe you have the proficiency to use other methods of emphasizing something...but that does not mean that you are better than everyone else, or that everyone else is wrong. Even if I had been shouting, I would have been shouting at everyone in the room...again, NOTHING in the post was directed at you. I never stated you were wrong, I never corrected you, I never told you that you should do anything. What was directed at you? Just because I replied to your post? I thought this was a public message board, not a private chat.
As far as my previous post goes, you also forgot to mention that I was right about half of it. If you look at users feedback, ALL auctions show up wether or not you are logged in or not. If you try to access the auction, you are then prompted to log in...but often the title of the auction is just as bad as accessing the auction. I don't think these titles should show up in the feedback area. The other problem pertaining to the original post is that when you do access these auctions this way, even if you are logged in, you are not even given the warning page that you are entering the adult area. So if a grandchild is helping grandma with her auctions (and I do not consider this allowing a child to browse the site), it is too easy for a child, accidentally or otherwise, to end up viewing adult auctions. Even worse is this happening with an adult item with an innocent name....Even though they obviously have made some improvements, the system is still broke!

auctionee, (you said):
"I never stated you were wrong, I never corrected you, I never told you that you should do anything. What was directed at you?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You quoted my comment, (my words):
"You had access because you are over 18 and registered with CC verification."
These are 'my' words, there were not "several posts" with these words stated. Just mine alone, and you quoted them.
And your comments were, (your own words):
"The above applies if you try to enter the adult area directly. However, it does not apply when accessing adult auctions through someones feedback or through the sellers listing page. For example,..........."
You were not stating an opinion about the subject. You were pointing out where you thought 'I' was incorrect in 'my' comment. When you use "----", you are directing your comments towards the 'person' making the quoted comment. It is their words you are referring to, that is simple english. Ask any news reporter. I really don't care that you made a mistake, it's not important and it's trivial. It's your condescending way of stating you were in error that's annoying. Everyone makes mistakes, including me. Some accept that fact, and some don't. They compound their error, by blaming the one they were making the comments about?
Before a moderator steps in and we both see the print, in blue background, I will end my comments here. Out of respect to their hard work policing the comments on this board. The subject in this thread is the most important, it bothers all of us who have children and grandchildren. I will continue to NW these low life auctioneers when ever I see them 'out of the adult area'. Adults who choose to sell these materials are entitled to do so, as long as they do so in the category listing where they belong.
My ten year old daughter receives porn spam in her email daily, and two spam blocks don't stop the flow. As for the easy access to it on Yahoo, it's easy access anywhere on the web. It's a huge problem but I don't want the government to get involved. I believe parents need to talk to their kids gently and explain that porn is not appropriate to a young influential mind. If parents avoid discussing the issue, then the kids won't learn discretion.
There's definitely a problem regarding the porn material. Parental involvement, and knowing what children or grandchildren are doing when on computers, is of the utmost importance. Whether it be at home, at school, or a friends house. It's very hard to combat on all fronts, but we have to stay with it as best we can.
All we can do is talk to them as mentioned, stop it as much as legally possible, and hope they heed our words as parents and grandparents. 'Up'holding our constitutional right's, has also brought us 'down' in morals on many fronts of society. Not only auctions, but elsewhere. Some have abused these rights for the sake of greed, regardless of the right or wrong of their actions, as it relates to children being exposed to these abuses.
Yahoo! is doing the best they can do in this case, other than banning the sale of such items on their site. Perhaps they could make such auctions non-picture, or at least set standards on how graphic the pictures could be in such auctions. I'm sure the adult sellers would hate this idea, as pictures play a major roll in enticing persons to purchase such materials. Many are underage, and in some cases they are targeted buyers.
