Ok, this is a biggy. The last few days I have been his with some Real strange ones! I have a winner in Indonesia that has been trying to pay for my auction. He says that he had a problem with his accout. I suggested all the normal things, Int'l Money order etc. Well, to make a long story short, He is paying me with paypal with another guys account email and TOTALLY different name. He sent me 2 payments and wants me to return one. I am a little scared. the reason why is that there was an alert that went out on Bidpay awhile back warning of this EXACT thing. someone paying for an auction and then having it shipped to Indonedia. Does anyone have PAYPAL'S PHONE NUMBER? Please?

Absolutely DO NOT SHIP!
The odds that you are being cheated are 99.99999999%
Tell the buyer you will only accept BIDPAY or and international MO and make sure they know you mean it and I guarantee you will never hear from them again.
I went through this a couple weeks back..
BLACKLIST the buyer

I'dlet them sweat awhile, I would do nothing about the money. Let PP take care of it.

Thanks so much WHEEW! I feel so much better. You two have excellent suggestions that I will use. I was really stressing about it. I have so much to do and dont have time to deal with this. What I have done so far is to email them and called them. I live close by so to them so their toll number is local for me. I just called 411 - and asked for their phone number. It goes to their front desk and I was transferred to someone's voice mail but it is a start. If I get a better phone number for their fraud dept. IF there is one, I will share it with you all. Thanks again so much.

yes, from Indonesia.
I started a thread about it, I will try to find it an pull it up.
On the paypal thing - prepare for them to freeze your account over this.. as is don't let other buyers paypal you money, you won't be able to access it until this is cleared up.
I will try to find the thread. Look for it on top in a few minutes.

CharlieOne, Thanks so much. I swear, I dont know what I would do without all of you. I cant believe this is all happening. I wonder if this happens more during the holidays or not or maybe it is just a run of bad luck for me.

I would recommend setting up a new e-mail account, add the new e-mail address to PayPal, and DELETE the original one (which I assume is the one you are using for your auctions). This will prevent anyone from sending money into your PayPal account until this is cleared up, in case your account is frozen. After it is cleared up, you can change it back if you like...though I would recommend keeping the different e-mail address so this won't happen again (if they want to pay you by PayPal, they would need to contact you and you could give them the PayPal e-mail address...then you just wouldn't give it to anyone in indeonesia .
Hope that made sense.

Do NOT send back the money. Paypal will accuse you of "laundering" it and take it out of your bank account. Withdraw everything in your PP account except for the suspicious payments. Contact PP immediately and tell them what happened and that the funds are sitting in your account for them to take care of. If you cant get through to them, email [email protected]. As long as you dont withdraw those funds, they have no legal reason to touch your bank account and you can stop them if they try. As for freezing your account, that's always been at their whim. Good luck and keep us posted.

Ok, first step done: withdrew and sent to my checking account all monies in the account except for the $$ in question that the Indonesian person sent me. I also took my credit card off of the account. Was that good to do? Now on to creating a new Paypal account for myself. Oh boy, a new email address too? That will be fun.

Paypal will let you open a separate business and personal account if:
you use two different email IDs, credit cards and bank accounts. I think you may need two different names, too. I opened one in my name and one in my wife's. Back in June, they shut down mine claiming it violated TOS. Then they let me re-open it. I could use my name becaue it kept telling me that name was taken. So I opened one with my middle name and work address and after it was verified, I went back and changed it so now it's working right. But it is a business account and the other is a personal. You cant have two personal accounts.
Hope this helps.

Paloma FIRST before doing anything else, go into your PRESENT PP account and change the e-mail on that account to another e-mail address (Yahoo, hotmail, whatever) with an obscure name that no one can send money to if your account gets frozen. Nothing worse than watching money being deposited day after day that you can't touch because the account is frozen!
Then, delete your present e-mail address from your current PP account.
Do it NOW!

As for another name...Do you have a cat? Dog?
I know of a woman who has a cat named Thomas. She puts her phone number under his name. Whenever she gets mail for Thomas, she knows where it came from.
As for the address, well, friend, neighbor, relative?
I am not advocating that of course...
If you have any doubts about your checking account, once you receive the money from the current transfer, you can cancel the transit number for PayPal--it's like doing a stop payment. I am unsure whether you can restart the transit number once you have stopped it though--check with your bank...

Just for clarification of my earlier post...
If the e-mail address on your existing PayPal account is the same one you use to correspond with your bidders, the most important thing for you to do right now is to change the e-mail on your existing PayPal account. If you don't, bidders can continue to send money to the existing account which could be frozen at any moment and you would not be able to retrieve those funds until PayPal decides you can. If you change that e-mail address to one that your bidders don't know, if they try to send you payments through PayPal they will not go into the account and can cancel them and send them to you through another method until this is resolved....and you won't have the frustration of having your legitimate money in an account that might be frozen.

Well here is what happened. Thanks so you all, I did NOT send him any money and it is now in the hands of the authorities. Paypal did not freeze my account because as you all suggested, to leave the $ in question alone. Which I did. The Credit Card was stolen WHEW!What a stressful day! Hugs to all of you for helping me through it all!
